Arsenal tipped to launch bid for Seri after selling £40m Ox to Liverpool

According to Guardian journalist Ed Aarons, Arsenal could now launch a move to sign Jean-Michael Seri after agreeing a £40m deal with Liverpool for the sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The midfielder has been strongly tipped to leave the Emirates in recent days after making it clear to Arsene Wenger during face-to-face talks last week that he wanted to leave the club.

Chelsea were the front-runners for his signature after they agreed a £40m with Arsenal on Tuesday but sensationally The Ox rejected a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Mirror are one of several media outlets who are reporting that Liverpool have now matched Chelsea’s £40m deal and Arsenal have agreed to do business with the Merseysiders after initially showing a reluctance due to our recent transfer dealings.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to undergo his medical at St George’s Park tonight before completing his move to Anfield on Thursday and I think we’ve got an excellent deal for a player in the last year of his contract who is injury prone and hasn’t performed consistently in recent years.

However, it’s important we replace the 24-year-old and Guardian journalist Ed Aarons believes Arsenal could now make an offer for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

The Ivory Coast international has been linked with Arsenal all summer and he was quoted in the Metro at the weekend as saying he would be interested in moving to the Emirates.

A Seri acqusition would shift this season’s Premiership futures. Currently, both Arsenal and Liverpool are both tied at fifth likely to win the league.

Seri was outstanding for Nice last season after scoring 7 goals and providing a further 9 assists from central midfield so I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad.

He’s available at a very reasonable price as the Metro claim the 26-year-old has a £36m buyout clause so we have no excuses if we want to sign him.

Just get it done Wenger! Then buy a centre-back….

Arsene Wenger has reduced Arsenal is in for a torrid season this time. I doubt if Wenger can make any meaningful signing at this time of the tranfer window because of his miserly nature There is no need to be optimistic.

You, like all the people who think Arsene Wenger does not want to spend money on players, are highly misinformed. The question is whether it’s willingly or not.

Arsenal had to make 15 million a year for 8 years while most of the Emirates debt was being paid down.

Now that it has been, more money is available and it is being spent (witness the series of club record signings).

What you are complaining about is that Arsenal doesn’t have an owner willing to lose several hundred millions a year like the Qataris with PSG or Chelsea’s owner…

But explaining the reality to people who think great management is spending money you don’t make is probably a complete waste of time…

David Ornstein has very close links with Arsenal and is normally on the mark regarding our transfer news. His words on Twitter about an hour ago: Arsenal have no plans to replace AOC & no money for major signings, but only way Sanchez leaves is if #AFC get massive money & replacement.

Ponder on that one if you will.
