Wenger set to enrage fans as Arsenal work on deals for £90m quartet

According to a worrying report in the Telegraph, Arsenal are set to sell four players for a combined £90m but Arsene Wenger isn’t planning on bringing in any replacements this summer.

The boss has suggested in recent days that he wasn’t thinking about signing any more players until he’d offloaded some of his deadwood as he felt our squad was too large.

Lucas Perez and Kieran Gibbs are two first team squad players that have been expected to go all summer and it looks like they are finally on the verge of completing moves away from the Emirates.

Gibbs has been at Arsenal since joining the clubs youth system in 2004 but he’s struggled to nail down a first team place and is set to leave following the arrival of Sead Kolasinac this summer.

Watford have renewed their interest and the Telegraph claim a £7m deal is now in the offing so it looks like Gibbsy will be making a short move away from north London soon.

Perez endured a frustrating first campaign at the club after failing to establish himself following his move from Deportivo La Coruna last summer and a move back to Spain in a £14m deal if expected to go through before the window shuts.

So while we’ve all been waiting for Perez and Gibbs to leave, it’s safe to say not many of us predicted Shkodran Mustafi would be sold by Arsenal this summer but that now looks like an increasing possibility.

Reports broke last week that Inter Milan were looking at Mustafi but most palmed it off as idle speculation, however, it seems there was something in it as widespread media outlets claim the German international is on the market.

The Telegraph claim Arsenal are ready to cash-in on Mustafi if we recoup the £34m we paid Valencia for his signature last summer with Juventus also understood to have registered their interest.

It’s a bizarre turn of events but I wouldn’t be adverse to Mustafi leaving as long as Wenger had a better replacement lined-up. However, sensationally, the Telegraph claim the boss has NO PLANS to replace the centre-back if he goes.

The paper says Wenger believes he has sufficient cover in defence with Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac all able to play in the back three.

I’d be flabbergasted if we sold Mustafi and Gabriel without bringing in another central defender. It would be suicidal as we’ve already seen in the first few games how vulnerable our defence is and that’s with Mustafi being available.

Unfortunately, the boss is also ready to make another controversial decision as the Telegraph say we’re going to sanction the £35m sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and not bring in someone to replace him either.

The Ox is refusing to sign a new deal despite the club offering him silly amounts of money so I have no problem with him being sold, even to a rival like Liverpool or Chelsea. However, to not sign a replacement would be ridiculous but that’s what the newspaper says is going to happen.

I have no idea how Wenger could justify selling two senior central defenders and Oxlade-Chamberlain and not bring in any replacements. It would be total negligence.

The Telegraph do say that we want Virgil van Dijk and Thomas Lemar but we’re prepared to wait until January or next summer to buy them as they are unlikely to be sold before the window shuts so we shouldn’t expect any more incomings this summer.

If we do sell Perez, Gibbs, Mustafi and Ox for a combined £90m and don’t sign anyone else, we’d have made a profit of around £69m on player trading this summer [£90m plus £25m from Szczesny, Gabriel, Hinds and Toral sales. Spent about £46m on Lacazette].

That would be an utter disgrace to leave that sort of money, plus the reported £100m we started out with this summer, in the bank unspent and it would have to go down as one of the worst summers of all time.

Let’s PRAY the manager has a plan in place to bring in a central defender, wide attacker AND central midfielder [vital!] before the window shuts otherwise we’re in for a looooong season.

You’re dreaming if you think we’ll sign three players lol.
    Agreed that’s what we need….
But at the rate we generally move, one maximum…
And I’d be surprised with that.
    Hopefully we keep Ox+Mustafi.
And shift Chambers and Wilshere instead.
Along with Perez, Gibbs, Debuchy, Akpom.
I’d love to lose Theo, but again unlikely.

That dinosaur is a numbskull. We got rid of a squad of deadwoods a few years ago (remember Bendtner and Santos)only to buy another squad of deadwoods we cannot shift until their contracts run down. And to top it all he says he must sell before he buys!!

He must stop buying cheap nonsense and go for the real McCoy. I thought the Saints wanted Elneny for £10m and Chambers back? That’s £25m already: You get rid of 2 deadwoods to boot plus signing Van Dyke for £60m minus the £25m, leaving you with £35m for a top defender. Numbskull’s brain cannot work this out so we need David Dean back!!

This has got to be the worst situation our club has been subject too.signing players recently and then selling them after a year, plus offering players ridiculous amounts of money to stay,is total madness.if our manager is selling and not replacing players is madness!!!.our great club is going down the toilet fast.each game we play I feel really scared,we are totally vulnerable at the back.God help us!

I thought wenger have lost it since he sold d the best arsenal players since patrict viera was sold .events unfolding since this tranfer window opened have proved that wenger is trying to destroy arsenal before leaving the club. Wenger have lost touch with modern football

It’s a cycle we have played out before, but let’s wait the week out and see.

I like Mustafu; true, after Christmas he was pretty awful but so were our midfield and defense, so harsh to blame him. But, if he is replaced as the article said, it would not be the end of the world. And even though he’s getting on, Per has been great when he played and Holding is coming on nicely.

Ox would be a shame but that’s it, a shame, nothing will derail or implode without him. He’s one of our best, by sheer tenacity and intent if nothing else. One of the few players always up for a fight. But, like Walcott, he has been so inconsistent and injury prone. If he demands 200,000 a week then good riddance and more fool pool or Chelsea.

Hypothetical but if we got van dijk* and Lemar, plus kol and lacazette, kept Ozil and Sanchez that would be a pretty decent summer, not to mention getting rid of some deadweight wage earners.

No need to angry, just hope that the before the transfer window close, wenger can be transferred out/fired. With this mediocre manager in place again, we will be getting nothing again this season. Expect the expected and prepare for the worst.

Nothing the Telegraph have come out with has come true, they are just guessing like the rest of us. To sell Mustafi with no replacement would be suicidal. I highly doubt Arsenal will sell to other PL clubs, especially Liverpool, after the Suarez incident. The Ox appears not to have good advice – to be in Wenger’s favourites is a huge plus for him, he won’t find the same treatment at other clubs

No Kroenke owned teams improved on the field or in the arena after he bought them. The cash flows from these teams are used as collateral to finance new purchases of stadium/entertainment venues. Great stuff, if you’re an accountant. Not a sporting venture. Sad for supporters who see these teams as something beyond a business.

The longer Wenger stay at Arsenal. The further we fall behind the other top 6 teams. Our biggest problem at Arsenal is injuries and our defence. We already lost this season. And next year we are going to loose players for free. Wenger have plans to buy in January. That’s not a plan that’s saying you screwed up this window

You these arsenal fans in london are our problems you are all part of destructive element eating deeply the club progress. You all noticed the aim and objective of these boards and the stupid wenger. And you still continue to buy there tickets these sillies no longer take us fans into consideration but there business . The team is more of gaining than winning trophy , its not their concern to win trophy just to gain.so we are all left out suffering the pain and losing money just to watch and support the team that dont mind us. So you are the problem because they know you will surely buy their tickets every year lol… The most costly ticket in England. What have you ever done to revolt nothing. If realmadrid made a mistake just a season you will see massive negative response from the great fans. Okay take a look at barcelona this season. Their board are worst like that of arsenal but fans forced them into spending huge amounts and still planning more. These are great clubs, no complaint from you and we dont want any because you are part of the problems

Arsenal are lucky to be a goal down. The defence was ripped to pieces after 10 minutes and if not for Cech,it could have been worse.
I believe tactically the fm is a a dinosaur.
I doubt the gunners can win the epl as long as he is in charge.

3-0 down after 60 minutes. The worst defence among the so called top 6 teams.
Its time the fm admits he is not up to the job. The top priority of any manager must be a steady defence. The fm has let Arsenal down with his defence the past ten years or more.
At any other club he wouldhave been fired years ago. This is because the US owner aint bothered about where the gunners finish.
Its time the Nigerian oilbaron comes to the rescue.

Surely Wenger has ran out of ideas. Today’s game against Liverpool told the whole story. How on earth could a Manager of Wenger’s status employ a 3-4-3 system against a very aggressive striking line of Liverpool? That in itself is defeating and I think Wenger has one honorable thing to do: To Resign.

Do what you can do Arsene Wenger is no-longer man to lead these team any more. If we need to save the team, time and respect fans all around the word we should apply what Americans said “everyone is replaceable” over and done if not the next will be relegation.

When Pool broke away to score the 3rd scored it showed how
the gunners were very vulnerable to the swift counter attack.
Wenger doesn’t seem to learn the lessons .I believe he could be gone by Xmas if the gunners cant compete.
He is too arrogant . When a director of football was broached he was against it.Well if you aint winning and losing heavily, you will have to pay the price.
