According to the Daily Star, Theo Walcott has decided to stay and fight for his place at Arsenal despite the impending arrival of Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar.

Walcott has been with Arsenal since joining the club from Southampton 11 years ago but he’s been tipped to leave this summer after losing his place last season.

The 28-year-old was the victim of Arsene Wenger’s formation change during the closing weeks of last season and Walcott looks set to fall even further down the pecking order.

Thomas Lemar has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks and the Daily Star claim he’s agreed personal terms ahead of a deal that’s expected to be worth £45m including add ons.

The 21-year-old was outstanding last year after scoring 14 goals and providing a further 17 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title so he’ll certainly provide some stiff competition for Walcott.

The Daily Star suggest that West Ham are keen to sign Theo in a £20m deal but the winger has supposedly informed close friends he has no intention of leaving Arsenal any time soon.

And instead of jumping ship in search of guaranteed first team football, the newspaper says Walcott is confident in his own ability will stay to fight for his place in Wenger’s side next season.

It’s a brave decision by Walcott as I just don’t see where he fits in if Wenger sticks with his 3-4-2-1 formation and Lemar’s arrival would surely see his playing time limited even further.

At this stage of his career, Walcott should be reaching his peak of his powers and commanding a first team place, not stuck on the bench and struggling for game time.

Dont’ get me wrong, I’d be glad to see Theo stay as he’s a very useful player to have in the squad and is a real goal threat to have off the bench, but I’m just surprised he’s not more concerned about his lack of playing time next year.

Lemar is replacing Alexis ffs. Walcott scored 10 premier league goals and 20 goals over all. The only player with better stats from the wing was Hazard. And Walcott was left out with a change of formation when we decided to lump to the big man. It would idiotic to sell him. And its far more likely that we could go back to 4-2-3-1. How do you pump the ball long to 5ft9 Lacazette. Work it out.
