Mesut Ozil has dropped a hint that he’ll be staying at Arsenal this summer after revealing that he’s excited to be going on the clubs pre-season tour of Australia.

Ozil is about to enter the final year of his contract at Arsenal and his future is in serious doubt as we’ve yet to agree terms over an extension despite holding lengthy talks with his agents.

Depending on which newspaper you believe, we’ve offered the German international somewhere in the region of £250,000 to £275,000-a-week but Mesut is holding out for at least £300,000.

The 28-year-old is also concerned about our competitiveness on the pitch after we missed out on Champions League qualification so it’s led to speculation that he could leave this summer.

Arsene Wenger has always maintained in public that we won’t sell even if Ozil doesn’t sign a new deal but realistically there is no way the club could risk losing such a valuable asset for nothing in 12 months time.

However, Ozil has now dropped a big hint that he’ll still be at the club this summer after admitting that he’s looking forward to going on our pre-season tour of Australia next month.

Mesut told Arsenal.com:

“I hear Sydney is a nice city with a lot of nice people living there. I don’t know a lot about Australia but this is a good opportunity to see the city, the people and I’m really happy to go there with Arsenal.

“It is really good to have pre-season with the team, in my career it has always been like that. If you play at a big tournament, especially with Germany, you really miss pre-season.

“Two years ago we went to Singapore and it was a nice experience to see the city and the fans, and to train how we do in Sydney. So I am excited to do the same in Australia. I can’t wait to go there.”

This doesn’t sound like a man who’s head is away from Arsenal and I actually think Ozil is fully prepared to start the new season at the club.

The worry is that he’s prepared to go in to the new season without signing a new deal as he’ll be in a strong negotiating position with Arsenal and other clubs the closer he gets to being out of contract.

I think the situation should be resolved this summer so if Ozil doesn’t sign a new deal over the coming weeks then we need to cash-in and sell him abroad to the highest bidder before the window closes.
