Arsenal willing to meet £52m asking price as Wenger eyes star signing

By on June 20, 2017

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have not been put off by Lyon’s £52.7m valuation of Alexandre Lacazette as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a high profile signing this summer.

The boss is under pressure to build a squad capable of competing for the title next year after missing out on the top four last season and he’s facing arguably the toughest summer of his career.

The club have a number of players approaching the final year of their contracts, most notably Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, and he needs to show those players and the fans some ambition the transfer market.

It looks like the club are ready to back him with a record transfer kitty and the Evening Standard claim Wenger is determined to sign a high profile player this summer.

While a sensational coup for Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe is still on the cards, the newspaper says Arsenal remain keen on signing Lyon hitman Alexandre Lacazette.

The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates once again this summer with Sky Sports News quoting Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas as saying last week that they have received an offer from Arsenal for the striker.

This followed widespread reports that Wenger had held face-to-face talks with the Lyon supremo in the south of France and again in London earlier this month so it looks as though our interest in Lacazette is concrete.

And the Evening Standard suggest that Arsenal are willing to meet Lyon’s £52.7m asking price so a deal could become a reality if we can persuade the French international to come to north London.

Lacazette has plenty of other clubs chasing his signature and many can offer Champions League football next season so it’s still going to be a challenge to lure him to the Emirates even if we do agree to meet Lyon’s valuation.

However, I think Lacazette would be an excellent addition if we could win the race for his signature. He proved once again last season by scoring 37 goals in all competitions that he’s one of the most prolific hitmen in Europe and we could certainly do with that kind of goal threat up front next season.

Wenger will in reality keep his money in his pocket. He is one of Freud’s anal group. He’s a tight ass. The CEO of Lyon’s true statement is that Wenger had not in reality bid for Lacazette. Expect panic buys on transfer deadline day. Wenger seems to me to have no control over his ‘tight ass’. It’s a compulsion.

    It’s Christmas for Wenger!

After all the years being frugal and trying to turn profits on players, Wenger has paid off the stadium and can spend to his heart’s delight. Mbappe and Lacazette will cost over 150$ million between them, but an attack featuring Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey, Mbappe and Lacazette would be another level of lethal. Arsenal will be destroying teams 8-nil. Unfortunately we don’t have CL, so it’s a tougher sell. But after the formation change we smashed Man City, Man U and Chelsea and beat Everton 3-1 scoring 2 of the goals with 10 men, won 9 of 10 and a record-breaking FA cup. So the news isn’t all bad.

Personally, I think Arsenal can win the League with the team as it is now. But just 1-2 top top level additions and they are utterly unstoppable. There could be a new Invincibles.

Wenger will buy a lone striker who has physical strength and able to hold the ball up well. We missed this in games when Giroud was either lacking or not available in the big games.
We also missed a left sided attacker, which showed last season with having to do with make shift left sided players who were too predictable when they had to turned back and cut in on their right foot or play it back across the midfield.
The french names touted would be a welcome addition, but this will only happen if we sell ozil or santchez due their high price tag and wages.
