Update on Arsenal’s £100m+ move for Kylian Mbappe

By on June 19, 2017

The Mirror are carrying an update on Kylian Mbappe’s future by citing Marca as saying that the Arsenal target has his heart set on joining Real Madrid this summer.

Arsene Wenger is facing a decisive summer as he looks to keep hold of key players and bring in top class additions to make us genuine title challengers again next season.

Mbappe has emerged as a key target in recent weeks with the club going all-out to try and sign the hottest property in world football right now.

The 18-year-old scored 26 goals and provided a further 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season and it’s led to intense interest from a number of top European clubs.

The Sun quoted L’Equipe as saying late last week that after seeing our opening £87m offer rejected by Monaco, Arsenal are ready to pay £100m PLUS throw in Olivier Giroud in exchange for Mbappe’s signature.

Giroud is being tipped to leave the Emirates in search of regular first team football ahead of the 2018 World Cup and it seems Wenger is hoping to use the 31-year-old as bait to land the teenage sensation.

However, it looks as though we could miss out as the Mirror are now citing a report from Marca today that claims Mbappe has decided he wants to join Madrid.

The Spanish daily newspaper says the French international could be signed by Madrid as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement with the Portuguese superstar looking to leave Spain this summer.

I personally wouldn’t look too much in to what Marca say on the subject as they are Madrid’s unofficial mouthpiece so they obviously have an agenda to push. All this story tells me is that Madrid are serious about signing Mbappe.

As I’ve said for several weeks, the problem is that while it’s great to see Arsenal being ambitious in the market and going for a sought-after player like Mbappe, I think he’s still going to end up at the Bernabeu.

It’s very rare a player turns them down and our key negotiation tactic was the ability to offer Mbappe regular first team football but he’s far more likely to get that at Madrid if Ronaldo is leaving.

While the author is right very few people turn down Real Madrid. When it comes to MBappe the stage of his career would dictate that he shifts to a club like Arsenal and develops his skill there will be a right time to join Real Madrid and have the team built around him. At this stage to expect real Madrid to build a team around him will be expecting too much. While at arsenal he can expect good service from oil and Alexis
