Arsenal plot bid for £34m star after Wenger holds talks with agent

By on June 6, 2017

According to a report by Football London, Arsenal are eyeing a formal bid for Jean Michael Seri after Arsene Wenger held talks with the agent of the £34m-rated Nice midfielder.

The boss is wasting no time in trying to strengthen his squad after signing a new two-year contract extension and while many reports have been linking us with strikers, it seems Wenger is also in the market for a new midfielder.

The Daily Star reported last month that Arsenal had joined Tottenham and Barcelona in showing a keen interest in buying Seri after he impressed with Nice last season.

The 25-year-old scored seven goals and provided a further nine assists from central midfield to help Nice finish third in Ligue 1 behind PSG and Monaco.

It looks like we’re ready to steal a march on our rivals as Football London are citing Guardian journalist Ed Aarons as claiming that Wenger has held transfer talks with Seri’s agent about a move to the Emirates.

The report states that Arsenal could now make a formal bid to sign the Ivory Coast international – who has a £34m release clause – with Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis photographed in Nice over the weekend.

It’s not known why the duo were in the south of France but obviously it’s led to intense speculation that they were on transfer business and Seri could have been the prime target.

I said throughout last season that central midfield was a problem area for us ever since Santi Cazorla got injured back in October and with the Spaniard ruled out until the start of 2018, I think it would be wise to sign a replacement this summer.

Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey improved during the second half of the campaign but we have very little top quality behind those two as Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin are just squad players and Jack Wilshere is expected to leave.

Therefore, Seri could be a smart signing but we’ll face stiff competition from Spurs and Barcelona so there is still a long way to go before he’s an Arsenal player.

I love the madness when the alternative is mid-table mediocrity.
