Arsenal to submit world record £95m bid for 26-goal hitman

By on June 4, 2017

According to the Express, Arsenal will return with a renewed £95m offer for Kylian Mbappe after seeing our opening £87m bid rejected by Monaco last week.

L’Equipe reported on Friday that Arsenal had tabled a sensational £87m (€100m) bid for Mbappe after Arsene Wenger was given the go-ahead to launch a stunning move for the French starlet.

Monaco rejected our offer as they are seemingly determined to hang on to the 18-year-old for at least another year but it looks like Wenger isn’t going to give up so easily as the Express are running an ‘exclusive’ claiming that Arsenal will submit an improved £95m offer.

That would smash the current world transfer record set by Man Utd when they paid £89m for Paul Pogba last summer so it would certainly be a huge statement of intent by the club if we were able to pull it off.

Our fresh bid would still be below the £105m Real Madrid reportedly had rejected last week but the Express say our deal would see a larger percentage of the fee paid up front.

It’s also suggested in the report that Wenger is hoping to persuade Mbappe to reject Madrid’s advances by offering him a starring role at Arsenal – which is something he wouldn’t get among the ‘Galacticos’ at the Bernabeu.

Obviously it would be a sensational coup if Arsenal were able to land Mbappe as he’s the hottest property in the world right now after scoring 26 goals and supplying a further 14 assists to help guide Monaco to the Ligue 1 title.

Wenger has publicly confirmed his interest and even revealed last month that he was at Mbappe’s house trying to lure him to the Emirates last summer before he opted to stay with Monaco.

We’ll have to wait and see whether this supposed improved offer is more appealing to the French giants but I have a feeling the Ligue 1 champions will knock it back again.

They seem determined to keep him for at least another year but if they do decide now is the time to cash-in, then I actually think we have a decent chance. Wenger has an excellent relationship with Monaco and the youngster could be tempted to continue his development at Arsenal where he’ll play regularly.

The last thing he wants to do is rush in to joining Madrid and rot on the bench for the next few years. Monaco have suggested that the development of the player is more important than money, so Arsenal could actually be in with a good chance of signing Mbappe if he does leave this summer.

I would be very surprised if Mbappe comes to join Wenger. What does Wenger have to offer that he can’t improve upon elsewhere. Not Wenger’s tactical acumen and that’s for sure … nor his top level track record in the last 10 years nor his dictatorial bumbling in the transfer market. What Wenger does have which has paid off is his clever cultivation of Kroenke – who has backed Wenger against various main board directors.

Wenger’s tactical acumen has kept arsenal in the champions league for the last 20 odd years and turned average players to overachievers during the stadium building years and his dictatorial bumbling has built a very decent team indeed.

I am sure Arsenal’s transfer would be different this time around. I see determination to make up for the lost years.

    Remain positive.
