3 favourites to replace Wenger as Arsenal boss this summer

By on February 25, 2017

Arsene Wenger’s future is in serious doubt with a growing number of supporters calling for the Frenchman to walk away from Arsenal when his contract expires in June. Here are the three leading candidates to come in if Wenger doesn’t sign a new deal:

Max Allegri

The pph sportsbook software tells us that Juventus manager Max Allegri is the bookmakers favourite to replace Wenger with the Italian best odds of 5/1 to take over the reigns at the Emirates Stadium.

The 49-year-old has fuelled speculation in recent weeks that he could be heading to north London and reports suggests he’s already got an agreement in place to leave Juve at the end of the season.

Allegri has huge credentials as he’s on the verge of leading Juventus to three consecutive Serie A title’s while he also lifted the title while at AC Milan.

We need an established name who’s got experience of being at a huge club, dealing with big name players and has the character to stamp his own authority on Arsenal with immediate effect, and Allegri ticks the boxes.

Thomas Tuchel

Currently in charge at Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel is the 6/1 second favourite with the bookies to replace Wenger at Arsenal and I can see why so many fans would be excited to see him come to the club.

The 43-year-old made his name during a six-year spell at Mainz but has really established himself as one of the best young coaches in Europe since taking over at Dortmund in 2015.

Tuchel likes to play attractive football so the Emirates faithful will appreciate that, and he’s also had experience in managing at a top club with world class players.

Eddie Howe

The Bournemouth boss is the 10/1 third favourite to be the next Arsenal manager and he’d be many supporters first choice if we wanted to bring in an English boss this summer.

Howe has been hugely impressive since returning to Bournemouth in 2012 and led them to promotion from the Championship in 2015 before keeping the club in the top flight last season.

The south coast club have continued to impress this campaign with Howe’s side playing some lovely football during our recent 3-3 draw, but my big concern is his lack of experience at managing a top club.

I personally think we need a big character to replace Wenger. Someone who’s going to command immediate respect as the players will need to buy in to his ideas after so long under Arsene.

For that reason, I’d go with Allegri from the three names above while I’d also like to see the hierarchy make a play for Diego Simeone, who’s currently the 12/1 fourth favourite.

Jorge Sampaoli would be a great option. Why is he not being discussed?
