Confirmed: Arsenal’s game at Southampton postponed
Arsenal.com has confirmed that our Premier League game against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium has been postponed.
We were set to take on the Saints on Saturday February 25th, however, the game has had to be moved after Claude Puel’s side reached the final of the EFL Cup.
Southampton beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield in their semi-final second leg last night to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory and book their place at Wembley on February 26th.
No new date has been confirmed for our league game as yet but hopefully it’s brought forward and rescheduled for the 21st/22nd February.
That’s just a few days after the fifth round of the FA Cup will be held and one of Arsenal or Southampton will have a weekend off as we take on each other in the fourth round this weekend.
Plus, bringing the game forward would work out well for Arsenal as Southampton would no doubt field a weakened side ahead of their cup final. Even if it was moved to the week after the final it should be good for us as they’ll either be hungover from their victory or low on confidence if they lose.
Although we travel to Anfield on Saturday 4th March so it would be much better overall if the Southampton match was played on the 21/22 February so we’d have a long break heading in to that huge game.
There’s no guarantee that the match will be rescheduled either side of the original date but the powers that be usually try to set a new date as close to the original as possible.
