Key update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Serie A star, £36m deal agreed
There has been an important update on Arsenal’s pursuit of Kostas Manolas and it looks as though we’re set to miss out on the defender as the Mirror are carrying a report that claims Inter Milan have agreed a £36.3m deal to sign the Roma star.
Manolas has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Arsene Wenger’s interest dating back to the days when the centre-back was with Olympiacos – where he made his name during a two year spell between 2012-14.
We were strongly linked with the Greek international before he eventually joined Roma in 2014 but the boss has reportedly maintained his interest in the player since he moved to Italy.
Manolas’s agent, John Evangelopoulos, revealed earlier this month that we had seen a £34.6m bid rejected last summer and the Mirror appear to suggest that we are still keen on bringing him to north London despite seeing our offer knocked back.
However, it looks like we’ve missed out on his signature as the newspaper are citing a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato that claims Inter Milan have now agreed a £36.3m deal to sign Manolas at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old has developed in to one of the best central defenders in world football during his time in Serie A and I was all for the player joining Arsenal last summer, but that was before we landed Shkodran Mustafi.
We turned our attention to signing the German international after failing to agree a fee for Manolas and with Laurent Koscielny recently signing a new deal, I think our first choice centre-backs are locked in for the next few years.
No doubt Manolas would have been a superb signing but I think we missed the boat on him a long time ago so there won’t be any disappointment if/when he joins Inter this summer.
