Arsene Wenger opens up on summer transfer plans – fans not happy

Arsene Wenger has come under fresh scrutiny from fans after already hinting that there won’t be major investment in the Arsenal squad this summer.

The boss has been slammed by large sections of the fanbase this season after only bringing in two significant signings, with Petr Cech coming in last summer while Mohamed Elneny was signed in January.

The media have been spinning their usual “£75m warchest” stories in recent weeks with many newspapers suggesting that Arsene is going to overhaul the squad and is finally ready to splash some serious money.

However, the boss has moved quickly to play down those suggestions after telling the Mirror at his pre-match press conference on Friday that there will be no major changes to the squad this summer.

Wenger confirmed that he will look to sign new talent but has already spun the “difficult to find better players than we have” line and claims that the core of the squad is already good enough.

When asked if he’ll make a lot of changes to the squad in the summer, Wenger is quoted by the paper as saying:

“No. If you look at the top three teams, you will see they have not changed their team a lot.

“We have to strengthen our squad but it’s not obvious to find the players despite the money the English clubs will have. Of course we will work very hard to do that. We are already working. But we have to find the players and that is not easy.

“The core is not good enough? That’s an outside point of view. We have again to analyse it in an objective way. And this team has won many games and the quality of many games was at top level.”

Understandably these comments have not gone down too well on social media with supporters already sniffing blood but we should always be careful not to read too much in to what Arsene tells the press.

The optimist in me is hoping that Arsene is playing things down in the media to lower expectations but privately he’s planning a busy summer in the market. The problem is, we’ve been here too many times before and heard the same rubbish coming out from the club.

It usually goes something like this:

April – June: We’ve got money to spend and will be active in the market
June – July: Big transfers take time. We need to be patient
July – August: It’s not easy to find players better than we have. Prices go up after a major tournament like the Euro’s
September 1st: We worked hard but in the end we couldn’t find a deal worth pursuing. We have a quality squad already. Judge us in May.

As ever, I will continue to hope that this summer will be different than the last. However, my gut feeling is that Arsene WILL bring in a couple of big names. This is likely to be his last summer window as Arsenal manager so he’d be bonkers not to give it a proper go next season.

He do not need to spend a lot. He should find good playars like Leicester City. but he failed too many times.

I don’t believe that Arsenal Fans are worried about what Arsene Wenger says , because after fourteen years of failure ro win back the championship , and for the first time after sixteen years Arsenal ranks lower the Spurs on the table , it couldn’t be worse and the fans for sure are ging to force him out of the club and he will have nothing to do with Arsenal investment and tranf]sfer policy this summer. The club will pay him for the last year of his contracta# and say thank you and goodbye. We don’t believe that the board are going to risk losing Arsenal fans for the sake of keeping the specialist in failure.
