Injury Update: Positive news on Gabriel & Koscielny injuries

Now that the dust has settled on what was a thrilling 2-1 win over Leicester City it’s time to look at a couple of concerns from yesterday.

Gabriel was due to line-up alongside Laurent Koscielny for the forth consecutive game against the Foxes but rumours emerged on Saturday that the Brazilian had picked up an injury.

It soon became apparent that Gabriel missed training on Saturday after suffering what was initially thought to be a thigh problem and sure-enough Per Mertesacker was named in the starting eleven when the teams were announced on Sunday morning.

Speculation suggested that Gabriel was facing up to three weeks on the sidelines but thankfully Arsenal moved to play down those reports after confirming that the centre-back has a ‘slight’ hamstring injury.

The fact the club use the word ‘slight’ should give assurances that Gabriel won’t be out for too long, so hopefully he’ll be available for the FA Cup clash with Hull on Saturday.

In a double boost, it looks like Koscielny should also make a swift return to action after he was taken off during the win over Leicester yesterday. The Frenchman was replaced at half-time leading to panic among the Arsenal fanbase that our best defender could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

However, an Arsenal official confirmed to reporters that Koscielny only suffered a dead leg – presumably when he took out Kante just before the break – so he should only be out for a matter of days.

So we can breath a collective sigh of relief as it would have been a huge blow to lose either of Gabriel or Koscielny for any period of time. I’d give them both the weekend off and start Per and Chambers against Hull to ensure Gabriel and Kos are fit to face Barcelona next Tuesday.

i had said this earlier than now that arsenal seems to miss welbeck so much, his creativity on how he handles ball, excellent speed etc.he is known to be arsenal saviour in most critical time.i stand to vouch any day any time that welbeck comeback is going to bring a huge blessing to gunners provided he is future in every match. He has done us proud again,a big weldone to him.
