Arsenal close-in on attacker after agreeing big-money deal

By on January 28, 2016

Some interesting reports have been circulating today claiming that Arsenal have agreed to sign Andriy Yarmolenko in a £23m deal from Dynamo Kiev.

Yarmolenko has been hotly tipped to make a move to the Premier League for over two years with the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and most recently, Everton, all strongly linked with the winger.

Roberto Martinez’s men have been favourites to complete a £21m deal for the 26-year-old with the attackers agent, Vadim Shabily, pictured at Goodison Park on several occasions in recent weeks.

However, it looks like we’ve hijacked the move as the Express are citing a report from Ukrainian publication Sport today which claims that Arsenal have now agreed a £23m deal with Kiev.

There is no indication as to whether we’ve agreed personal terms with Yarmolenko yet but the newspaper does say that the move will be delayed until the summer as Kiev were adamant the player stayed at the club to play in their huge Champions League tie with Man City.

So, how much truth is there behind all of this? Well, as it’s January and the transfer window is open, there is plenty of idle gossip flying about so I’d personally take this news with a large pinch of salt.

However, if we have agreed a deal for Yarmolenko, then it could be a shrewd piece of business as he’s certainly an exciting talent who would be a great addition to the squad.

He’s netted 13 goals and provided 8 assists in his 22 appearances for Kiev this season and he’s also got a great return for his country having scored 22 times in 55 caps for the Ukrainian national team.

Any team could do with that kind of goal threat in their squad, and £23m seems like a decent price for a player of his caliber in today’s market, so I wouldn’t be grumbling if these reports turn out to be on the money.

But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. I’d still be extremely cautious until something more concrete comes out.

There is not a better time to win the Premiership than now. There is no stand out team about and every one seems to be dropping points. Our Gunners seem to need just that extra push to claim the top spot at the end of the season. So what have we acquired ? A 5 million midfielder and the promise of a striker to be with us for next season. Every team around us is going to be a bigger threat next season. We must win it now.
