Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alexis Sanchez suffered a groin injury during Sunday’s win over Manchester United but worryingly he’s still being given permission to play for Chile.

Sanchez was in outstanding form yesterday as he scored two superb goals during our 3-0 victory over United at the Emirates.

However, Arsenal fans were left holding their breath when he was substituted with 10 minutes remaining and he appeared to be holding his groin as he limped off the pitch.

Wenger has given an update to Arsenal.com on Sanchez’s condition and unfortunately confirmed that he has indeed picked up a groin injury.

Usually with a two-week international break in front of us, Sanchez would be withdrawn from his national team squad and given the chance to rest.

But worryingly, Arsene also confirmed that Alexis will be allowed to link-up with Chile and play in their upcoming games against Brazil and Peru.

The boss told the clubs website:

He has a little groin problem. Unfortunately he goes to Chile. You cannot stop him from going to Chile and he loves so much to play for his country and he will play against Brazil [on Friday] and Peru [next] Tuesday so the game at home against Brazil he will not want to miss. Hopefully he will come back in good shape.

Ermmmm, if Sanchez is injured, he should be withdrawn from the squad. Simple as that. From Arsene’s comments, it sounds as though Sanchez has asked to play but he should be politely told his fitness comes ahead of his desire to play for his country.

We do have to let the Chile medical team assess Alexis’s condition but if he’s injured, they shouldn’t want to risk him either, so hopefully sense prevails and he’s left out of their games over the international break.

The last thing we want is an injured Sanchez. He’s just got back to his best after a slow start to the season so it would be a nightmare to lose him for any length of time.

Wenger better not rely 100% on Sanchex though I agree he is top quality.Walcott and the others must share the scoring.
