Arsenal Insider: Wenger Wants Record-Breaker, Player Keen On Move

By on July 24, 2015

Is Benzema Wenger’s target?

Arsenal director Lord Harris has conducted a very interesting interview with the Daily Mail in which he confirms Arsene Wenger is looking to buy a big-money striker and the player is supposedly keen on joining.

The newspapers have been speculating for weeks that Wenger wants to buy a top class striker and they’ve linked us with a number of names such as Benzema, Aubameyang, Higuain and Lacazette.

Some fans were skeptical but Lord Harris has now confirmed that a striker is on the list of targets handed to the directors by Arsene but he refused to divulge the name of said player.

However, Lord Harris did reveal that it would require a record transfer fee from Arsenal to sign the striker in question and with over £200m in the bank, he says the club are willing to back the boss as we can afford to buy pretty-much any player on the planet – with a few notable exceptions of course.

The Arsenal director went on to claim that this mystery striker is keen on making the move to North London, but the big problem is persuading the selling club to cash-in, as they’ll need to find a suitable replacement first.

He told the Daily Mail:

‘Money was tight when we moved to the Emirates but it’s a lot freer now,’

‘We could go into the market and probably buy any player in the world, apart from half a dozen who are un-buyable. In the accounts, there’s over £200million in the bank. You could say to Arsene we’ve got no money and he wouldn’t worry, or you could give him £100m and he might not spend it.

‘At the moment there are no plans to sign anyone, unless he finds a real superstar like Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez. He’s looking for one of those but there aren’t many available.

‘We would back him to break the club’s transfer record. If he wanted the man, he could have him. Apart from Messi and Ronaldo, he could have any player. We will probably have to break the club record to get the man he wants.’

‘We get a list of the players that Wenger wants. On the list is a centre forward, but I’m not going to tell you who he is. You’ve got to get the other team to want to sell him, but I think he wants to come. It basically comes down to whether the other team can find a superstar to replace him, because they don’t have to sell.

So, who do we all think this striker is? My money is most certainly on Karim Benzema. Arsene has always liked him, the press are all claiming he’s our No.1 target and there has been speculation that Madrid may sell if they could sign one of Marco Reus, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Sergio Aguero.

Benzema would also probably cost a fee in excess of the £42.5m we paid for Mesut Ozil, so all of this coincides with what Lord Harris is suggesting in his interview above.

Therefore, it looks to me like Arsene is waiting to see if Madrid can bring in a new striker as this will pave the way for Benzema to join Arsenal.

It’s going to be an interesting few weeks but I honestly don’t think anything will happen until the final days of the transfer window, and it’s going to be touch-and-go as to whether we can pull this off.

The ball is pretty-much in Madrid’s court as they wont release Benzema until a replacement is found, so it all depends on how hard they really push to sign someone like Aguero, Reus, etc.

But what a signing Benzema would be if we could somehow pull this off! I genuinely think we’d have a good shout at the title next season with him leading the line.

its an obvious case Aubemayang can’t b compared to benzema in all aspects.
so AW shouldn’t have any dout in signing the BVB attacker.
