Highly-rated midfielder confirms he’ll join Arsenal after successful trial

According to ESPN, highly-rated Romanian midfielder Catalin Carjan has confirmed he will join Arsenal from Viitorul Domnesti when he turns 16 later this year.

Carjan has been with Viitorul in the third tier of Romanian football since joining their youth set-up when he was 13 and his potential has seen him develop a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in his homeland.

The 15-year-old caught the eye of Arsenal scouts and ESPN claim he had a successful trial last season which saw him turn-out for one of our academy sides and he’s now set to join the club when he turns 16 in December.

Arsenal’s coaching staff obviously saw something in Carjan as the teenager has now revealed he’s been told the plan is to progress him to the first team squad within two years.

Carjan is quoted as saying by ESPN:

“It’s something else. They’ve [Arsenal] been watching for me to get more matches and that was it. After that, they sent me the tickets to go join them. They told me that I was a good player and that they wanted me to join the first team in two years.”

Carjan is now set to become the latest addition to the academy as Arsenal continue to overhaul their youth set-up with left-back Joel Lopez joining from Barcelona and will sign a professional contract when he turns 17 next March.

We also beat-off competition from Manchester United to sign young goalkeeper Sam Greenwood from Sunderland this summer so it seems Sven Mislintat and Unai Emery are keen to have a steady stream of young talent coming to the club.

It’s always nice to see big-money signings arrive and we’ve had plenty of that in recent months with Emery spending £70m on five first team additions but it’s also important to think about the future.

Hopefully Carjan can continue his development with Arsenal and get his chance in the first team in a few years.
