[Video] New Arsenal signing scores stunning goal in training ahead of City game

By on August 8, 2018

Arsenal’s summer signing Lucas Torreira warmed up for the Manchester City game by scoring a stunning goal in training this afternoon.

Torreira sealed a £26.5m [via Guardian] move to Arsenal from Sampdoria in July after playing a key role in helping Uruguay reach the knockout stages of the World Cup.

The midfielder was given an extended break following his exploits in Russia this summer and enjoyed a holiday with his friends and family in South America.

However, the 22-year-old began his pre-season training at London Colney on August 1st and played his first game in an Arsenal shirt during our 2-0 victory over Lazio last weekend.

Torreira has been working on his fitness in recent days ahead of our Premier League opener against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon but it remains to be seen if he’ll be deemed ready to start.

The Uruguayan is known for his defensive qualities and his passing but showed Unai Emery he will also be a threat in the final third after scoring a stunning lob against Petr Cech in training this afternoon.

The previous day, Torreira also proved he can pick a pass after combining well with Mesut Ozil to assist the German international during a practice game at London Colney.

I’m excited by Torreira’s arrival as we haven’t had a proper defensive midfielder in the team for years but it’s an added bonus he can also play a bit in attack!
