Arsenal set to launch bid to sign £53m South American attacker

By on June 29, 2018

According to reports in Italy via TeamTalk, Arsenal are ready to make a formal approach for £53m-rated Juventus attacker Juan Cuadrado after seemingly missing out on Gelson Martins.

Unai Emery is reportedly keen to strengthen his option out wide as we lacked any genuine width in the squad last season and Martins had emerged as a prime target after terminating his contract at Sporting Lisbon.

However, TeamTalk claim that the Portuguese international is ready to snub Arsenal’s advances in favour of joining Liverpool on a free transfer as he wants to join a club playing in the Champions League.

Emery has wasted no time identifying an alternative target as TeamTalk are citing a report from CalcioMercato that claims Arsenal are ready to make a formal approach to sign Juventus winger Cuadrado.

The Colombian international has been impressing at the World Cup where he’s helped his country book a last-16 date with England after topping their group and it seems Arsenal are hoping to lure him back to the Premier League this summer.

Cuadrado made his name at Fiorentina before joining Chelsea in 2015 but he failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge and eventually joined Juve on a permanent deal last summer after spending the previous year on loan in Turin.

The 30-year-old has rediscovered some of his best form in Italy and is seen as an important part of Max Allegri’s side so CalcioMercato claim Juventus want around £53m for his signature.

I personally don’t think there’s any chance Arsenal will pay that kind of money for a player who’s the wrong side of 30 and failed to make it during his short spell in the Premier League so Juve will need to lower their expectations if a deal is to be agreed.

Martins would have been a much better signing, especially on a free transfer, but if he’s snubbed us then we need to find another top class winger within our price-range over the coming weeks.

Got to “report from CalcioMercato” and stopped paying attention.

Gelsons was supposed to be on a free so where exactly is that extra £53,000,000 coming from???

Maybe Wenger was laying Golden Eggs during his tenure which is why the club took so long to part ways with him. Sounds about as reasonable as anything else I’ve seen come out of CalcioMercato…

Good signings from Emery. Hope Torreira, Lichtensteina, Papastathopolous, Bernd Leno and other incomings can impress this season.
