Arsenal in talks to sign 22-year-old in big-money deal, Mislintat driving negotiations

According to Sky Sports via the Daily Star, Arsenal are locked in negotiations with Freiburg over a potential £35m deal to sign Caglar Soyuncu with Sven Mislintat leading the charge for the defenders signature.

We’ve been busy in the transfer market since the arrival of Unai Emery as head coach with right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner arriving on a free transfer from Juventus while goalkeeper Bernd Leno has joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

We’re also being strongly linked with Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos but it seems Arsenal are hoping to bring in another defender this summer.

Soyuncu has been touted as a key target for several weeks and the Daily Star cite Sky Sports as saying that Arsenal are locked in talks with Freiburg over a deal to sign the £35m-rated star.

The newspaper says head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is leading the negotiations after being impressed by Soyuncu’s potential during his time in Germany after the 22-year-old joined Freiburg from Altınordu in 2016.

Soyuncu recently revealed he’s desperate to join Arsenal as he wants to play in the Premier League but admitted the decision rests with Freiburg as he still has three years left on his contract.

The defender is quoted as saying last week by the Daily Star:

“I hope I go to Arsenal. I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team. I have a contract [at Freiburg] for three more years.”

The president of Soyuncu’s former club, Altinordu, also claimed the youngster is expected to join Arsenal and they’ll receive a cut of the transfer fee.

Mehmet Ozkan is quoted by the Daily Star as saying:

“Caglar Soyuncu is set to join Arsenal,” Of course we would make a cut from the transfer if he joins Arsenal.

“Arsenal asked us for data on his time at the club, we have put something together for them which will be handed over.”

We’ll have to wait and see how talks progress but it looks like Arsenal are showing a serious interest in signing Soyuncu this summer and I think he’d be a great long-term addition to our defence.
