Arsenal leading chase to sign £25m goal-scoring midfielder – report

By on May 9, 2018

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are leading the chase to sign James Maddison after it was revealed the £25m-rated Norwich midfielder’s injury wasn’t as bad as first feared.

Maddison has emerged as one of the most sought-after talents outside of the Premier League after starring for Norwich this season while he’s also now a regular with the England U21’s.

The 21-year-old has chipped in with 15 goals and a further 11 assists from midfield for a Norwich side that sit 14th in the Championship table so it’s no wonder he’s attracting so much attention from the top flight.

It looked like Maddison’s hopes of securing a big-money move to one of the Premier League’s top clubs had been dashed after he was initially expected to be out for around 6 months after picking up a serious knee injury last weekend.

However, the Mirror claim further scans have shown the injury isn’t as bad as first feared and the midfielder is now expected to be ready to return for pre-season training, which has put clubs on red alert once again.

The newspaper says Arsenal are leading the chase for Maddison’s signature along with Man City while the likes of Tottenham and Everton are also understood to be keeping an eye on his situation.

So there’s going to be plenty of competition and the Mirror suggest that Norwich are wanting around £25m for the talented youngster, so it’s going to be a sizeable investment for whoever ends up buying him.

The Canaries are under no pressure to sell on the cheap as Maddison signed a new long-term contract until 2021 last year so fair play to them for demanding big money for their key asset.

It’s still not clear what Arsenal’s transfer plans are ahead of what’s going to be a huge summer for the club but I guess we’ll want a new manager in place before we go splashing £25m on 21-year-old midfielders.
