Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has decided to leave his big guns at home after including 6 youngsters in the squad to face Manchester United this afternoon.

We head to Old Trafford with virtually nothing left to play for in the Premier League as we’re sixth in the table with no chance of finishing in the top four.

And with a huge semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid coming up on Thursday night, understandably Wenger has decided to prioritise the Europa League clash.

The boss has left the likes of Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey, Shkodran Mustafi, Jack Wilshere and Alexandre Lacazette back in north London to rest ahead of the trip to Madrid.

That’s opened the door for youngsters Jordi Osei-Tutu, Kostantinos Mavropanos, Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah to be included in the match-day squad against United.

However, Wenger has risked a few of our first team regulars as Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Granit Xhaka have travelled to Manchester while Danny Welbeck could also face his former side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sure to start up front as he’s ineligible to play in Europe while Henrikh Mkhitaryan could face United after recovering from a knee injury that’s kept him out for the last five games.

18-man squad

Here is the full squad that arrived in Manchester yesterday, according to the Manchester Evening News:

Cech, Ospina, Bellerin, Monreal, Kolasinac, Osei-Tutu, Mavropanos, Holding, Chambers, Willock, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Mkhitaryan, Iwobi, Nelson, Welbeck, Nketiah, Aubameyang

From these 18 players, I guess our starting eleven will look something like this:

Cech, Bellerin, Chambers, Holding, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Welbeck, Aubameyang.

It’s not a terrible side considering, but we won’t have much experience on the bench that’s for sure!

The Europa tie is certainly important. However, I hate to see a team v United that will stand a good chance of losing! What also would it do for club morale to have yet another away loss prior to the Madrid game?
