From Germany: Arsenal linked with £35m bid to sign talented winger
According to Bild via the Mirror, Arsenal could be about to launch a £35m bid to sign RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg as doubts over his future in Germany grow.
The club are on the look out for a new manager but that hasn’t stopped Head of Recruitment, Sven Mislintat, from pressing ahead with our summer transfer business.
Mislintat has been tasked with identifying potential new signings but reports in Germany are linking us with a move for one of Arsene Wenger’s long-term targets.
Forsberg has been linked with a move to the Emirates for some time with widespread reports last summer claiming Arsenal were keen after the winger provided 8 goals and 22 assists during the 2016/17 campaign.
He ended up staying at Leipzig but the 26-year-old has struggled to replicate that sort of form with a pelvic injury hampering him this season so he’s managed just 5 goals and 4 assists so far this year.
However, it looks like Arsenal are still ready to renew their interest as Bild, via the Mirror, are tipping us to launch a £35m swoop for Forsberg this summer.
And the German publication suggests we have a good chance of luring the Swedish international to the Emirates after his agent cast doubt over the players future in Germany.
Forsberg is facing a three-game suspension after being sent off against Hoffenheim at the weekend and agent Hasan Cetinkaya has balsted the decision to uphold the red card.
He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“The ban is a scandal! Emil was fouled and provoked, didn’t even hit his opponent properly. The verdict is an attack on RB and Emil. They would not have done such a thing to a Bayern Munich player!”
I’ve said for some time that our squad lacks width and Forsberg would certainly solve that problem. He’s predominantly a left winger but he can also play on the right so he’d give us plenty of options in attack if he does end up joining Arsenal.
