Arsenal hoping to snap-up 15-goal midfielder in £30m deal this summer

According to the Mirror, Arsenal are in the race to sign £30m-rated Norwich City midfielder James Maddison but we’ll face stiff competition for his signature this summer.

Maddison has emerged as one of the most sought after talents outside of the Premier League having starred for Norwich this season while he’s also broken in to the England Under-21 set-up.

The 21-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided a further 11 assists so far this season so it’s no surprise that he’s attracted plenty of interest from the top flight ahead of the summer.

The Mirror claim that Arsenal are among a whole hosts of Premier League clubs who’ve expressed their interest in signing Maddison as Arsene Wenger looks to reshuffle his midfield options.

Jack Wilshere looks increasingly likely to leave when his contract expires in June while Aaron Ramsey’s future is also in doubt as he’s about to enter the final year of his deal and there’s no sign of an extension being agreed any time soon.

Maddison is an attack-minded midfielder so he could be viewed as a replacement for either Wilshere or Ramsey – although it would be a huge risk to sign a player unproven in the Premier League to replace a regular starter.

If we were to sign Maddison, I’d expect him to initially come in as a squad player who’d mostly start in the cup competitions and gain some top flight experience from the bench before pushing for a starting spot.

However, we’re still a long way from signing the talented youngster as the Mirror claim that Tottenham, Manchester City, Everton, Southampton and Brighton are also vying for his signature.

Not only that, but the newspaper also says Norwich are demanding £30m for Maddison this summer and I personally don’t think Arsenal will be prepared to pay that kind of money for a kid who’s only had one great season in the Championship.
