Arsenal crashed to yet another away defeat after losing 2-1 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park this afternoon.

We started well and took the lead through a fine goal from Lacazette but another error from Mustafi allowed Perez to equalise before more sloppy defending let Ritchie score a second half winner.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  5/10 | Beaten at his near post once again. Lost count how many times that has happened in recent years.

Chambers  5/10 | Missed a couple of decent chances and was given a tough time by Perez. He’s not a right-back.

Mustafi  4/10 | Failed to react to another low cross as Perez swept home the equaliser. Very similar to his mistake for Long’s goal against Southampton last week. Also fell asleep for their second goal.

Holding  6/10 | Far more solid than his defensive partner but still looked shaky at times.

Monreal  6/10 | Poor header led to Newcastle’s second goal but otherwise OK.

Elneny  6/10 | Average game as he couldn’t reproduce his superb performance from midweek. Worked hard though.

Xhaka  7/10 | Always seems to look better when he has Elneny doing the defensive work alongside him. Played some lovely passes.

Willock  5/10 | Wasted a golden chance to make it 2-1 before half time. Tidy in possession but didn’t rally take his opportunity.

Iwobi  6/10 | A mixed game. Looked dangerous at times and got in to some good positions but once again his final ball and finishing let him down.

Aubameyang  6.5/10 | Lovely cross set-up Lacazette for his opener but was otherwise frustrated. Looked more comfortable down the middle.

Lacazette  7/10 | Great volleyed finish to open the scoring but wasted a great chance to make it 2 when he opted to pass to Willock instead of shooting.

Subs:

Welbeck  5/10 | No impact.

Maitland-Niles, Nketiah N/A

So we slumped to our fifth consecutive away defeat that’s left us six points adrift of Chelsea and just two points above Burnley. West Ham at home up next weekend…
