From Spain: Arsenal could sign Real Madrid star in £35m deal

By on March 29, 2018

According to reports in Spain via TeamTalk, Real Madrid are ready to sell Luka Modric in a £35m deal with Arsenal hoping to sign the former Tottenham midfielder this summer.

Modric has been one of the best midfielders on the planet since joining Madrid from Spurs in 2012 having helped them win a number of trophies including 3 Champions League titles.

However, the Croatian international’s future at the Bernabeu is in doubt as he’s tipped to be a high-profile casualty of Zinedine Zidane’s squad overhaul this summer following a disappointing campaign.

It’s led to speculation linking him with a shock move to Arsenal in recent weeks as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in another midfield ball-player this summer.

Jack Wilshere is edging closer to the exit door after failing to agree terms over a new deal while Santi Cazorla is unlikely to play for Arsenal again so we need a deep lying playmaker and Modric has emerged as a surprise candidate.

It looks like a deal could be on the cards as TeamTalk are citing reports from AS that claim Madrid are ready to sell Modric to help fund a move for Valencia star Carlos Soler.

The Spanish publication suggests that Madrid will sell Modric for £35m as that will go a long way to paying the reported £70m it will require to sign his replacement, Soler, from Valencia.

On the face of it, I’d love to see Modric join Arsenal as he’s a superb footballer who’d fit in well with our style of play. Plus, it would be great to see the reaction from up the road if we signed the former Tottenham star.

However, realistically, I just can’t see it happening. Modric turns 33 in September so no matter how talented he is, I just don’t see Arsenal agreeing to pay £35m for a player who might give us 1 or 2 good seasons.

Naaaaaa, no way Arsenal would spend that much on a player at the end of his playing tether. Not the Arsenal way at all.

No transfer fee…only way that move would happen.
No one is going to pay more than 5 million for a 33-34 year old next season.
