Another Mislintat gem? Arsenal eyeing move for £20m Bundesliga ace
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing Germany midfielder Kerem Demirbay after Sven Mislintat recommended him.
Mislintat has wasted no time in putting his stamp on the club since arriving as our new head of recruitment late last year as he played a key role in us buying Konstantinos Mavropanos, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January.
He’s been tasked with overseeing our summer transfer activity and a new midfielder is on the agenda as Jack Wilshere is being tipped to leave when his contract expires in June.
Santi Cazorla is also set to leave after struggling to overcome his ankle injury while Aaron Ramsey’s long-term future is in doubt so we need to sign a midfielder and several names have been linked in the media in recent months.
The latest is Demirbay with the Evening Standard reporting that Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing the Hoffenheim midfielder – who’s well known to Mislintat following his time in Germany.
Demirbay has excelled since joining Hoffenheim from Hamburger SV in 2016 and he’s also broken in to the German national team ahead of the World Cup finals.
The 24-year-old is at his best playing as a deep-lying playmaker so he could be viewed as our ‘next Cazorla’ and the report says Hoffenheim could cash-in at £20m to help fund their summer overhaul.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running for his signature as the newspaper says Liverpool are also keen so we’ll face stiff competition to land Demirbay this summer.
