[Player Ratings] AC Milan 0-2 Arsenal: Ozil & Ramsey shine for Gunners

By on March 8, 2018

Arsenal have taken control of our Europa League last-16 tie after beating AC Milan 2-0 at the San Siro this evening.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan opened the scoring with a powerful deflected effort before Aaron Ramsey rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 at half time with both goals coming from superb assists from Mesut Ozil.

We sat back to protect our lead in the second half and eased to a vital 2-0 win that puts us in control of our last-16 tie with the Italian giants.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  6/10 | A nightmare on crosses as he got away with a couple of flaps at set-pieces but good to see him get a clean sheet.

Chambers  7/10 | Was exposed several times down his side during the early stages but settled in to it and almost scored with a powerful effort just before half time.

Mustafi  7/10 | A solid display from Mustafi. Didn’t put a foot wrong.

Koscielny  8/10 | Much better from the captain. Made two excellent blocks and was back looking like his old self.

Kolasinac  7/10 | Caused plenty of problems in the first half but his final ball wasn’t always up to scratch. Forced off with an injury midway through the second half.

Ramsey  8/10 | Great run and cool finish to make it 2-0. His energy in the middle of the park was vital tonight. Great all-round performance.

Xhaka  7/10 | A much-improved performance. Showed discipline to sit deep in front of the defence and kept things simple in possession. More of the same please.

Wilshere  6.5/10 | A few nice touches and got in to some dangerous areas but looked a little off the pace at times.

Mkhitaryan  7.5/10 | Did well to open the scoring with a deflected effort but worked hard defensively when needed.

Ozil  8/10 | Superb assist for Mkhitaryan’s goal and even better for Ramsey’s strike. His general play was OK but he made two key passes which led to our goals.

Welbeck  6.5/10 | To be fair, Welbeck put in a great shift up front and caused plenty of problems. He just lacks any real quality. Missed a great chance to get on the score-sheet at the end of the first half.

Subs:

Maitland-Niles  7/10 | Great display from the youngster after replacing Kolasinac.

Holding  6/10 | Solid 10 minute cameo.

This was a terrific overall performance from Arsenal as we bounced back from our recent disappointments to put one foot in the last eight of the Europa League. Milan are an average side these days but it’s always tough to win at the San Siro and we did so in style tonight. Watford at home up next in the league….
