Arsenal looking to sign Italian international in £27m deal

By on March 7, 2018

According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal have joined the chase to sign Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante but will face stiff competition for the £27m-rated Italian.

Arsene Wenger’s future at the club is in serious doubt following a disastrous campaign but no matter who’s in charge this summer we need to do some major squad restructuring.

A new central midfielder is definitely needed as Santi Cazorla’s career is probably over, Jack Wilshere is yet to sign a new deal, Granit Xhaka has been a nightmare signing while Aaron Ramsey will have just one year left on his deal this summer.

It looks like Arsenal chiefs are already drawing up a list of potential targets as the Mirror are citing a report from TuttoSport that claims we’ve joined the chase to sign Cristante.

The 23-year-old has been hugely impressive since joining on loan from Benfica last summer as he’s scored 10 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign.

He’s also broken in to the Italian national team squad ahead of the World Cup finals and the report says he’s valued at around £27m – which seems like a reasonable price in today’s market.

However, we aren’t the only club in the running for his signature as the Mirror claims that Liverpool, West Ham and Watford are also interested so we’ll have to fend off several Premier League clubs.

Let’s see how things progress but as much as we desperately need to sign a central midfielder, I think the priority needs to be changing the manager as whoever replaces Wenger will have his own targets in mind.

I did not think we were as bad as in the Final. Yes, any goal is preventable but credit where credit is due. Arsenal ( or any big club have no divine right. Man City were ruthless in that first half & their three team goals were of the highest quality ( not like the goals in the Final). There is so much pressure in tne top clubs with supporters demanding instant sucess that Managers are fearful ( as much as some players are). We all know the value of a high quality fast, strong defensive midfielder ( e.g. Kante or going back how Makele provided a shield for slow Terry). Xhaka is a passer with no pace and cannot defend, Ramsey is not a degensive midfielder nor is Wilshire. We will not get in top 4 ( or 5) so let”s experiment with youth play Naitland Miles as defensive midfield ( or another under 23 player). Give the Greek centre back ( or another kid) a chance over Mustafi. Welbeck is strong & tries hard but is not a finisher. Let”s have Eddie N on the bench. This is the time to experiment in temaining Premier league matches, then we know where the real talent is amongst the youth and can invest in the summer ( whoever the Managsr is) but plays the kids in their rightful positions. The Serbian left- back worries me. Strong, tries hard etc but passing & defending not good enough. So pick Naitland Miles in central midfield beside Xhaka and try a new centre back. George Graham was right, you build successful teams from the back.
