Arsenal sunk to a new low after being deservedly beaten 2-1 by Ostersunds at the Emirates tonight but we still progress to the last-16 of the Europa League 4-2 on aggregate.

The players clearly thought they didn’t have to turn up after winning the first leg 3-0 and Ostersunds proved them wrong after going 2-0 up inside the opening 30 minutes.

We pulled one back shortly after the break through Sead Kolasinac but couldn’t muster an equaliser so we progress 4-2 on aggregate after slumping to an embarrassing 2-1 defeat tonight.

Here are my ratings:

Ospina  5/10 | Caught too close to his near post for the second goal and had some shaky moments throughout the game.

Bellerin  5/10 | Set up the goal with a cross but was caught too high up the pitch on several occasions.

Chambers  3/10 | Helped the opening goal on it’s way in to the net and turned way too easily for their second. A nightmare evening for the youngster who looked out of his depth, even against Swedish part-timers.

Holding  4/10 | Got drawn out of position countless times and was all over the place next to Chambers.

Kolasinac  5/10 | Should have cut out the pass that led to the first goal but finished well to make it 1-2. Looked sluggish at times.

Elneny  5/10 | Kept wandering high up the pitch and forgetting his defensive role in front of the defence. The fact he was our furthest man forward for their second goal tells the story.

Maitland-Niles  4/10 | A first half to forget for the youngster as he was caught out of possession several times and couldn’t get a foothold in the game. Replaced at the break.

Mkhitaryan  4/10 | Well below his best on another disappointing night for our January signing. Gave away possession too often and failed to have any positive influence in the final third.

Wilshere  5/10 | Disappointing display. Couldn’t get his passing going and blazed a decent chance over the bar just before half time.

Iwobi  4/10 | Once again, he kept making the wrong decision in the final third and his lack of quality was obvious. Limped off with cramp late on.

Welbeck  3/10 | Missed a golden chance to make it 2-2 but headed straight at the keeper from 6 yards then squandered another great chance late on. Looks a shadow of his former self. So low on confidence right now.

Subs:

Xhaka  5/10 | On at half time and for the most part added some cohesion to the midfield but still produced a few headless moments.

Willock  5/10 | Saw a shot blocked late on.

This was one of the worst performances we’ve seen from Arsenal in recent memory. It was outright embarrassing at times that a team of so-called professionals thought they could just turn up and walk through a European fixture against a team playing in the biggest occasion of their careers. We’ve seen too many of these displays under Wenger for this to be a coincidence so the manager has to take responsibility. But he won’t.

The ratings above seem fairly accurate. Pity there is not a rating for the Manager.

England striker Danny Welbeck is another set to be out of contact in 2019, and Wenger has insisted that more players and clubs will go into the final year of their deals in the future. Is there room for Welbeck in Arsenal’s starting XI in the run-up to Russia 2018?  (Image: Reuters)Welbeck will be desperate to ensure that he gets regular games — he knows that he will struggle to get his England place back unless he is a fixture in the Gunners’ starting XI. Meanwhile, Hector Bellerin claims Arsenal were given a wake-up call by their horror defeat at Swansea last Tuesday.
