Arsenal star confirms Mesut Ozil has signed new £350k-a-week contract
According to quotes in Football London, Mohamed Elneny has confirmed Mesut Ozil has signed a new contract with Arsenal.
Ozil’s future has been in serious doubt over the past year as his contract was due to expire in June and we had struggled to agree terms with his representatives over a new deal.
At one point it looked like Mesut would follow Alexis Sanchez out the door with the German international looking likely to walk away as a free agent at the end of the season.
However, the situation changed last month and we heard more positive signals coming out of the club that Ozil wanted to stay and Arsene Wenger seemed far more confident when quizzed about the playmakers future last week.
Reports emerged yesterday from the Telegraph claiming that Ozil had signed a lucrative three-and-a-half-year deal worth around £350,000-a-week – although there was no official confirmation from the club.
That has now changed – sort of – as Elneny has been quoted by Football London as telling BeIN Sports that Ozil informed him he has now signed his new contract with Arsenal.
“I spoke to Mesut and he told me that he signed the new contract. He is a world class player on & off the pitch,”
“He is a vital player for us and there is always a positive aura surrounding him.”
So there we have it, Elneny has confirmed Mesut is staying and it’s excellent news for Arsenal Football Club as Ozil is a vital part of our team right now.
Some reports suggest he snubbed a mega deal from China while Man Utd were also interested but Ozil is settled in London and has decided to continue his journey with Arsenal.
Let’s hope he clicks with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the trio have the potential to become one of the best attacks in European football.
