[Player Ratings] Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea: Monreal & Ozil superb for Gunners

By on January 24, 2018

Arsenal came from a goal down to beat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates tonight and book their place in the final of the Carabao Cup.

We started poorly and Hazard gave them a deserved lead before Monreal’s deflected header levelled things up in the 11th minute. Arsenal improved as the game went on and won it when Xhaka poked home midway through the second half.

These are my ratings:

Ospina  6/10 | Could have done better to keep out Hazard’s opener. Flapped at a late corner but didn’t have too many shots to save.

Ballerina  6.5/10 | Important block from Alonso at the far post late on. Solid in defence but limited going forward.

Mustafi  7.5/10 | Dragged out of position for the Hazard goal but was otherwise very good. Made a couple of important blocks.

Koscielny  7.5/10 | Completely lost Hazard’s run for his goal but was otherwise excellent.

Monreal  8/10 | Got another ‘goal’ with the deflected equaliser and was outstanding throughout. Superb form continues.

Elneny  7/10 | Kept things tidy and did a solid job both in midfield and when he dropped in to the defence.

Xhaka  7/10 | Was playing much further up the pitch than we’ve been used to and he popped up with a goal.

Wilshere  7.5/10 | Another impressive performance from Jack, especially in the second half. Weaved his way out of tight situations on numerous occasions.

Ozil  8/10 | Some lovely touches at times and was excellent in the second half when he took the game to Chelsea. Worked his socks off and deserved an assist when he teed-up Iwobi.

Iwobi   6/10 | Missed a golden chance to make it 3-1 as he fluffed a shot straight at Caballero when free. A few neat passages of play but pretty average display.

Lacazette  7/10 | Isolated in the first half but much more involved after the break. Hold-up play was good and he created the second goal. A few loose passes but plenty of unselfish work up front.

Subs:

Kolasinac  4/10 | A cameo to forget as he gave the ball away countless times.

Ramsey  5/10 | Not really that involved in his ten minutes on the pitch.

So we’re in to another final where we’ll face Man City at Wembley next month. It’s obviously going to be a difficult game but if we work hard and dig deep like we did in the second half tonight, we’ll have half a chance.
