Man Utd star confirms desire to play for ‘favourite team’ Arsenal as talks continue

By on January 17, 2018

Henrikh Mkhitaryan currently holds the key to Alexis Sanchez’s proposed move to Manchester United but the attacker should eventually agree to join Arsenal if old quotes are anything to go by.

As per widespread reports this week, United are the front-runners to sign Sanchez but the proposed deal involves Mkhitaryan heading to Arsenal in the opposite direction.

Terms have already been agreed between Sanchez and United but Mkhitaryan is yet to come to an agreement with Arsenal with his agent Mino Raiola confirming yesterday the playmaker is in no rush to leave Old Trafford and wants what’s best for him, not everybody else.

There are fears the Armenian international could scupper the proposed swap deal, however, we shouldn’t worry if what Mkhitaryan said nine years ago still rings true today.

While playing for PC Pyunik in 2009, the 28-year-old revealed himself to be a huge Arsenal fan during an interview with UEFA.com and confirmed he’d love to play under Arsene Wenger one day.

Mkhitaryan told UEFA.com in 2009:

“My favourite team is Arsenal, I like their attacking play and fast style. Moreover, Arsène Wenger puts faith in young players while demanding results at the same time. I like that and want to play there one day.”

Obviously a lot has happened since 2009 but it’s clear Mkhitaryan was once a huge fan of Arsenal so I personally don’t think he’ll have any reservations about joining us if a deal can be agreed. All the talk from his agent is just posturing to ensure he gets a good deal.

Negotiations are believed to be on-going between all parties but I think an agreement will eventually be found to see Mkhitaryan join Arsenal with Sanchez heading to United.
