Arsenal in talks to replace Sanchez with 22-year-old star – report
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are in talks with Manchester United over the possibility of including Anthony Martial in any deal involving Alexis Sanchez going to Old Trafford.
Sanchez is almost certain to leave this month after refusing to sign a new contract and United have edged ahead of Man City in the race to sign the Chilean international.
The Evening Standard claim United are confident they can lure Sanchez to Old Trafford and believe their willingness to include a player in exchange has put them in the driving seat to agree a deal with Arsenal.
The paper says United are ready to pay up to £35m – which is significantly more than the £20m City have left on the table – but Arsenal are exploring the possibility of taking a player in exchange.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been the name put forward by United but the Evening Standard claim Wenger has now asked the Red Devils about Martial being included as a makeweight in the deal instead.
The French international has had a mixed campaign at Old Trafford as he’s started just 11 of United’s Premier League games but he’s still managed to chip in with 7 goals.
Wenger was a known fan before Martial joined United from Monaco so it’s no surprise that he’s looking to bring the 22-year-old to the Emirates and he’d be a superb addition as he can play out wide or through the middle.
However, I personally don’t think United will be too keen to let him go so Mkhitaryan seems far more likely if we are to get a player in exchange for Sanchez – and the Armenian would also be a top signing.
I’d still prefer to see Alexis join City as it will be painful to watch him playing under Mourinho but if we do end up doing a deal with that lot, let’s make sure we get a decent player in exchange.
