[Player Ratings] Arsenal 1-3 Man Utd: Lacazette excellent, Koscielny woeful

Laurent-Koscielny arsenal

It was a hugely frustrating night at the Emirates as we actually played very well going forward and certainly deserved something from the game but defensive mistakes and some superb goalkeeping cost us.

Koscielny and Mustafi gifted United an early two goal lead thanks to some woeful defending while De Gea kept United ahead with a string of outstanding saves.

Lacazette pulled one back shortly after half time but more heroics from De Gea kept it at 2-1 and another error from Koscielny allowed Pogba to set-up Lingard for their third.

We should have had at least TWO penalties during the game but once again the referee bottled it while Pogba’s red card in the 75th minute killed the game as United sat deep and saw out the remainder of the match.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  7/10 | Superb save to deny Lingard and keep it 2-1. Wasn’t particularly at fault for any of the goals.

Koscielny  3/10 | Awful pass led to the first goal and shocking defending let Pogba score their third. Worrying bad night for the skipper.

Mustafi  4/10 | Shocking mistake to gift United the second goal. What was he doing?! Limped off injured shortly after.

Monreal  6/10 | Was part of a shocking all-round defensive performance from Arsenal tonight.

Bellerin  6.5/10 | Always an option down the right wing and got forward as we pushed for goals. On the wrong end of a horrible tackle from Pogba.

Xhaka  6/10 | Couldn’t cope with Pogba at times but kept the ball moving through midfield when we were in possession.

Ramsey  7/10 | Clever lay-off to assist Lacazette and worked his socks off. Unlucky not to get himself on the score sheet.

Kolasinac  6.5/10 | Got in to some good positions but final ball wasn’t there. Got stuck in which was good to see.

Ozil  7.5/10 | At the heart of everything and ran the game for much of the 90 minutes as we created numerous chances. Frustrating result for Mesut but at least he tried. Unlike this man…..

Sanchez  6/10 | Another poor performance in a big game from Alexis. It’s almost like he’s doing it on purpose. So frustrating tonight. He lost the ball a staggering 32 times! He did play a wonderful pass to set-up our goal but should have been a much better display from him.

Lacazette  8/10 | Superb performance. Great work rate and got his deserved goal after the break. Could have score a hat-trick on another night if it wasn’t for the brilliance of De Gea.

Subs:

Iwobi  6.5/10 | Worked hard but I think he just lacks that little bit of quality when it’s needed.

Welbeck  6/10 | Should have made more of the blatant penalty on him in the 88th minute.

Giroud  5/10 | Barely touched the ball during his 15 minute cameo.

Overall, it was a hugely frustrating game as we dominated for long periods, should have had at least two penalties, created 30+ chances and forced De Gea in to making 14 saves but the United keeper saved his side. Plus, we gifted them an early 2-0 lead and you can’t expect to win these big games when you give away such cheap goals.
