Portuguese midfielder offered to Arsenal as part of £20m swap deal
The Daily Star are reporting that Barcelona have offered Arsenal around £20m plus Andre Gomes in exchange for the signature of Mesut Ozil this winter.
Ozil may have produced a superb MOTM performance during our 2-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday but he’s yet to sign a new contract extension with the club.
The German international’s current deal expires in June and widespread reports in recent weeks have suggested Arsenal are ready to cash-in this January rather than lose him for nothing.
Ozil has been linked with a move to Man Utd but no doubt Arsenal would prefer to sell abroad and it looks like one of Europe’s elite clubs has come calling.
The Daily Star are carrying a report that claims Barcelona are ‘desperate’ to sign Ozil in January after identifying him as a much cheaper alternative to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
The newspaper says Barca have now offered a player-plus-cash deal involving Andre Gomes with the Catalan giants also paying around £20m in exchange for Ozil’s signature.
Gomes made his name at Valencia but has struggled to make an impact at Barca since joining the club in 2016 and he’s expected to leave the club either in January or next summer in search of regular football.
I’ve said many times that Arsenal need another central midfielder and Gomes would be an exciting addition if we could get him back playing the kind of football he produced at Valencia.
It looks like Ozil isn’t going to sign a new deal so despite his wonderful performance against Spurs, I wouldn’t be against cashing-in this January and would MUCH prefer to see him join Barca than Man Utd.
