According to quotes in the Express, Jack Wilshere insists he wants to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Wilshere has been with Arsenal his entire career and was once heralded as a future captain of the club after coming through the youth ranks as one of our most exciting players for a generation.

However, a series of major injury setbacks have derailed Jack’s career over the past five years and he was forced to head out on loan to Bournemouth last season to get some much needed playing time.

The 25-year-old is now back to full fitness after recovering from a fractured leg and has started five games in the Europa League and Carabao Cup so far this term.

But Wilshere is yet to start in the Premier League and it cost him a place in the latest England squad with Gareth Southgate making it clear he won’t pick Jack unless he’s playing regular league football.

The midfielder’s future is in serious doubt as Wilshere’s current contract expires at the end of the season and with his England World Cup place also in jeopardy, some have called for Jack to seek a move in January.

However, Wilshere insists he wants to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place in the first team and he believes his future will then take care of itself.

Wilshere is quoted as saying by the Express:

“I’ve said before in many interviews that I’ve just come back to full fitness, I’m happy at where I am playing-wise,”

“I’m trying to get into the Premier League team and fight my way into that team. So at the moment I am concentrating on the now, the future will take care of itself.

“All I’ve got to do is stay fit and play my football.  No (I don’t have to leave to go to the World Cup), I’ve got a great relationship with the boss, I’ve heard the boss speak in previous press conferences.

“He’s assured me that I will get some playing time. I want to stay at this club, I’ve said that many times. I left last year to get some football, I’ve done that, I’m back now, I’m fit and I’m ready to play.”

Jack knows he’s playing for his future at the club. If he stays fit and forces his way in to Wenger’s first team plans, then no doubt he’ll be offered a new contract and he’ll stay at Arsenal.

However, if he suffers another injury or doesn’t show the kind of form we’ve all been hoping to see from him, then it might be time to say goodbye at the end of the season.

I personally hope we see Wilshere fulfilling his potential at Arsenal so fingers crossed he stays injury-free over the coming months.

Jack is the obvious replacement for Ozil – and he can keep his own no. 10 shirt.
