Arsenal chiefs meet Dutch star to hold talks over possible £50m move

By on August 25, 2017

According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal have met with Virgil van Dijk and his agent to discuss a possible £50m move from Southampton before the transfer window slams shut next week.

Van Dijk has been pushing to leave the Saint all summer and has been training on his own after handing in a formal transfer request at the start of the month.

The Dutch international was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool during the early parts of the summer but that move was derailed when Southampton reported them to the Premier League for tapping-up.

Chelsea have also been tipped to launch a move for van Dijk if Southampton chance their stance and agree to sell the centre-back but it looks as though Arsenal have also joined the chase for his signature.

The Sun are citing Fox Sports News journalist James Dodd as saying that Arsenal chiefs have met with van Dijk and his agent in recent days to discuss a potential move to the Emirates.

However, the newspaper suggests that Liverpool and Chelsea remain keen to sign the 26-year-old and it would take a figure of at least £50m to tempt Southampton in to a deal.

For me, this would be a no-brainer if we could lure van Dijk to north London as he’s exactly the type of player we need right now and he’d improve our team HUGELY.

These rumours come amid speculation linking Shkodran Mustafi with a move to Inter Milan so perhaps Wenger is hoping to offload the German international and bring in van Dijk as his replacement.

However, I’m not getting my hopes up as we can’t offer him Champions League football and rumour has it he has his heart set on a move to Anfield.

Southampton have also been digging their heels in and refusing to sell – although they did recently sign centre-back Wesley Hoedt from Lazio so they could be preparing for van Dijk’s exit.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens over the coming days but as much as I’d love to see us sign van Dijk, I personally don’t think there’s a cat in hell’s chance it will happen.

I would rather we sold him to you than Liverpool, but you’ll have to cough up more than £50m in this market 🙂

Wenger could have got him for a much cheaper price.
The fm dithered and he went to Saints from Celtic.
To be frank,I have lost faith in the fm.
As has been said repeatedly by many fans,he is a
    dinosaur tactically.
It remains to be seen if he can get the better of Pool
    even with Sanchez back.
I fhe doesn’t speed up the attack I am sure the gunners
will run into a brickwall and lose.

If Wenger wants to make Sanchez the focal point of his attack,
he will be deeply disappointed. Its putting all your eggs in one basket.
During GG’s time,he used Wright as his principal attack weapon.
The result was when Wright was stifled,Arsenal more often than not had no plan b and as a result either lost or drew.

…and I am guessing Wenger personally told you his plans for Alexis?

My own advice for wenger before the window close,is wenger should try to sign seri and mahres fron licester city.it we make arsenal get more stronger both in the midfied and winger and also make arsenal a contender for trophy.
