Arsenal boss explains why he hasn’t made any further signings

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that an inflated market is making it difficult for him to buy this summer as foreign clubs are exploiting wealthy Premier League teams.

We were quick out the blocks this summer as we wrapped-up the signing of defender Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer in June while striker Alexandre Lacazette joined shortly after in a club record £52m deal from Lyon.

However, despite much speculation and being strongly linked with a number of players in recent months, Arsenal are yet to make any further additions to the squad with just 9 days left until the window slams shut.

Questions have been asked of the manager as familiar weaknesses have already been exposed after just two league games and fans are demanding a centre-back and central midfielder are signed before the end of the month.

Wenger has now claimed that it’s become increasingly difficult for him to buy players due to a ‘demanding’ market where foreign clubs are quoting Premier League teams like Arsenal inflated transfer fees.

The boss is quoted as saying by the Express:

“I am very pleased with our market because we bought good players who can integrate with our style of play, that’s what we want. On the other hand, it is very difficult.

“Today, the prices are out of proportion. The transfer market has become very demanding today. There is no transfer market anymore because the price depends only on the identity of the buyer.

“When you are English, you have straight away 50 per cent [extra] on the price of a player and that makes it difficult to act.”

It’s a tricky situation as English clubs do seem to have to pay over the odds but you have to just get on with it. It’s not stopped our rivals from buying players, so it’s no excuse really.

Wenger is still expected to dip back in to the market during the final days of the window but he first needs to offload our deadwood as he feels our squad is too big right now.

The boss said last week:

“I expect to sell players first [before buying]. I expect players to go because we have too many players. It’s not manageable and many clubs are in this situation.”

Gabriel and Carl Jenkinson have already left while the likes of Lucas Perez, Mathieu Debuchy and Kieran Gibbs are expected to follow but we only have ourselves to blame for struggling to sell our squad players as they are on HUGE contracts that nobody else is prepared to match.

It’s going to be a pivotal end to the month for Arsenal as I fear we’re in for another tough campaign if Wenger doesn’t bring in at least a centre-back and a central midfielder while another attacker would also be a bonus.
