Arsenal ready to hijack Tottenham’s £35m deal – reports

By on August 14, 2017

According to Football London, Arsenal are ready to do-battle with Tottenham and hijack their attempts to sign Ajax centre-back Davinson Sanchez before the transfer window closes.

The Colombian international is regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe after enjoying an excellent debut season with Ajax following his move last summer.

The 21-year-old has attracted interest from a whole host of top European clubs but reports late last week suggested that the defender was heading to Tottenham.

The Sun claimed that Sanchez had agreed personal terms with Spurs after our north London rivals had supposedly struck a £35m agreement with Ajax for his signature.

Sanchez was then left out of the Ajax squad for their game with Heracles on Saturday night with boss Marcel Keizer confirming the centre-back wasn’t focussed enough to feature due to the speculation surrounding his future.

However, Football London claim that talk of a ‘done deal’ with Tottenham is wide of the mark and cite a report from De Telegraaf that claims the race for his signature is still very-much alive.

The Dutch publication suggests that other interested parties will now make their move for Sanchez after he was axed from the Ajax squad and they name Arsenal as one of the clubs who are lining-up a bid.

However, there will be plenty of competition as the report says that Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also looking to hijack Tottenham’s move for the South American.

I’ve said for several weeks that we desperately need to sign a dominant centre-back if we’re going to challenge for the title this season so it’s good to hear Arsene Wenger is reportedly in the market for one.

Sanchez is a top young defender who has a great future ahead of him but I’d personally rather we focussed our attention on signing a more established name as Arsenal need a leader to sort out our defence.

Virgil van Dijk would be ideal but it’s highly unlikely we’ll buy him so I just hope Wenger manages to sign a top class centre-back before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Spurs supporter here – and this sounds like a story to bump up his price. Arsenal have a huge squad – so buying another player does not make sense.

If we lose four or five players like the Ox like Perez like Sanchez like Debuchy ,like Ozil then why not go to transfer market . I think we need a big ATTACKING midfielder and a very good center back. Then maybe we’ll give the other clubs something to think about.

Wenger better focus on the present rather then the future. When Arsenal had to be frugal, getting wc promising stars was a necessity.
Since then Arsenal are significantly much better off and can buy ready
made players. What everhappened tothe likes of Denilson,Brendtner etc.
They were supposed to take the fw by storm but season after season from 2008 thegunners challenged fizzled out.
Fans dont want a repeatof such a scenario.
