Arsenal transfer news: £80m attacker bid, Spaniard wants move & Gabriel off

By on August 8, 2017

It’s been another busy day in the world of Arsenal as we head in to the final weeks of the transfer window so here are a few stories that have been floating about in the media today.

PSG plot £80m Sanchez bid

Let’s start with some interesting news coming from the Independent as they claim that Paris Saint-Germain are willing to pay £80m to land Alexis Sanchez this summer.

Our Chilean super-star has one year left on his contract and Arsene Wenger insists we won’t sell even if he doesn’t sign an extension amid interest from a number of top clubs.

Man City are widely touted as favourites and are understood to be willing to wait until next summer to snap up Sanchez on a free transfer but it looks as though PSG may have other ideas.

The Independent suggest the Ligue 1 giants are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve by submitting an offer worth up to £80m in order to secure Sanchez’s signature this summer and prevent him joining City.

The newspaper says that PSG understand Alexis’s first choice is to link-up with Pep Guardiola at City but they are ready to offer him £400,000-a-week to move to Paris.

If true, then I think £80m is too good an offer to turn down and we should bite their hands off as there is no use losing a player like Sanchez for nothing in 12 months time.

Yes, it would be great to get another year out of him and maybe he might sign a new deal during the season but the chances are he won’t and we’ll be buggered next summer, so best off cashing-in if PSG are mad enough to pay £80m for him.

Vazquez eyes move

Next we have a report from the Express that claims Lucas Vazquez has told friends he will leave Real Madrid if he’s left out of the starting eleven against Manchester United tonight [which he was].

Lucas has struggled to nail down a regular place at the Bernabeu since breaking in to the first team in 2015 having progressed through the youth ranks and it seems he’s growing tired of his situation.

The Express cite a report from Don Balon that claims the 26-year-old has issued Madrid with an ultimatum that he will push for a move if he’s not selected by Zidane in tonight’s UEFA Super Cup clash with United.

As expected, Lucas was once again left on the bench so it looks like the attacker is now going to look for a move and the newspaper says Arsenal are among the clubs showing a keen interest in offering him a new start here in England.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly in the market for another attacker so the Spanish international could now emerge as a serious target as we’re struggling to agree a deal for Thomas Lemar.

Gabriel available

And finally, The Sun are reporting that Arsenal are willing to sell Gabriel as Valencia plot a £10m swoop for the Brazilian centre-back during the closing stages of the window.

Gabriel has struggled to hold down a regular place in Wenger’s starting eleven since joining the club from Villarreal in January 2015 and he made just 15 league starts last season.

The 26-year-old is seemingly attracting interest from Spain as The Sun claim Valencia are ready to make a £10m bid and Arsenal are understood to be willing to sell if a suitable offer comes in.

Rob Holding was excellent during the final stages of last season and we also have Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers on the books as well as Per Mertesacker so Gabriel could find himself down the pecking order this season.

He showed signs of promise during his time at the Emirates but I wouldn’t be too disappointed if Gabriel was sold this summer as long as we brought in a top class replacement.

If it is true that Wenger has been chasing Lemar, and all the indications point to that then Monaco may well decide that if they now lose Mbappe to Madrid enough is enough and Lemar will stay. Monaco as we all know have lost already some very talented players and they have gone to our rivals but for no other reason that they acted both early and decisively in their transfer negotiations. They paid the going rate and they got their man.
Wenger and his team on the other hand want it both ways.
They demand silly money for players he wants to move on and yet is not prepared to offer the money that clubs want for their players.
If Wenger had done this a month ago I believe Lemar would be by now an Arsenal player.
Wenger did this with Liverpool and Suarez although we may have still not got him anyway but we`ll never know.
My point therefore is that if we really want that player then we should not keep increasing our bids by the odd million or two, be bold, decisive and go for it.
