Arsenal free to sign French star in £55m deal

By on July 23, 2017

According to the Daily Star, Monaco have paved the way for Arsenal to finally land Thomas Lemar as long as we meet their £55m asking price.

Arsene Wenger has been strongly pursuing the French international this summer but we’ve found it difficult to get a deal agreed with Monaco as they are reluctant to sell any more of their title-winning squad.

Several of the team that landed the Ligue 1 title last season have left the South of France this summer so understandably Leonardo Jardim is desperate not to lose any more of his key men.

The Sun reported last week that Lemar was keen to join Arsenal and we remained hopeful of getting a £45m deal agreed after seeing two previous offers knocked back.

There were reports suggesting that Monaco had slapped an £80m price-tag on Lemar’s head in an attempt to scare Arsenal off but thankfully Wenger continued to pursue the attacker.

It seems the French outfit are now ready to do business as the Daily Star claim Monaco will reluctantly sell Lemar to Arsenal as long as we meet their new £55m valuation.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will be prepared to meet that asking price but given we were reportedly willing to pay in excess of £45m, I think it’s fair to assume we’ll be able to get a deal agreed now Monaco have lowered their valuation to a more realistic level.

We have ample funds left over in the transfer kitty and Wenger will see the coffers boosted by the sales of several fringe players over the coming weeks so we can certainly afford to splash out on signing Lemar.

Let’s hope we can get a deal agreed swiftly as the 21-year-old would be a hugely exciting addition to the squad. Lemar played a key role in helping Monaco lift the title last season after scoring 14 goals and setting up a further 17 so he’ll add some real creativity to the attack.

My only concern is his main position is on the left side of a front three so he could be lined-up as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez – who’s still being strongly linked with PSG.

The big problem with Wenger and Arsenal is this tendency to dither for so long in the pursuit of a player of interest. If you really want Lemar go for him and splash the cash as demanded by the player’s club. This is what serious clubs like man city, Chelsea and man united do. In the meantime 3 of Lemar’s teammates have since been sold, leaving Monaco to hang unto one of its better players. I’m of the opinion that this deal is dragging out for too long because Arsenal is pricing the player as if they were buying pepper and peanuts. Why must you submit three bids before you strike the right price for a player of your fancy?

I agree with every word you’ve written my friend we need more talent like this guy.so go in pay the money and get out mr wenger.
Our result with Munich which we thought was an excellent draw after 90 mins but when one looks at their next game being thrashed 4-0 it just goes to show that we weren’t that good proving my point with the Chelsea game on top of that

Stop dithering Mr Wenger and pay the money or we won’t do now’t this season that’s for sure…

Its rather unfortunate that wengers sillysally behaviour is what has landed arsenal all these misfortunes all these years.we will be in active competition allthrough and collapse simutaneously from all .IThink he’s blatantly closing his eyes from this fact and continue his cozy behaviour of lately trying to sign player when the windom closes.

I honestly agree. Intent is all about I want this so therefore I must do a, b & c. And engage in protracted negotiations. About a year or two ago, there was a mere speculation that the club was interested in bringing over Lacazette which endeavour came to nothing. And where did we end up this season, out of the champions league. It is time that management stops fooling us and make moves that will gladden the spirit of the fans.

Arsenal’s game realy entertains every fan arround emirates but what annoys fans is striking relactancy to put in more goals,,
Wenger has to accept summer spending on weaker areas most, we ar lacking the best no.7and 8 because all we have are nt creative,,mr Wenger Needs To add in three super signings of Barckley/carvarlho, Rafina or matuidi and finally Mahrez Or Lemar
