There is a lot of speculation flying about concerning the future of Alexis Sanchez with conflicting reports suggesting he may either be set to stay at Arsenal or force a move to Man City.

Let’s start with the positive news. Chilean outlet La Tercera are reporting that Sanchez has decided to stay with Arsenal after the club offered him an improved contract to make him one of the highest paid players in the Premier League.

The newspaper doesn’t provide any further details on the specifics such as how much we’ve offered Alexis or length of contract but they seem sure the attacker will be an Arsenal player next season.

However, the Evening Standard claim that Arsenal are unwilling to meet Sanchez’s staggering £400,000-a-week wage demands having already offered the 28-year-old a package worth around £300,000-a-week.

The paper says Sanchez isn’t yet agitating for a move but there is no indication he’ll sign the contract on the table so there is a real possibility he may see-out the final year of his current deal and make a decision on his future next summer.

That would leave Arsenal in a perilous position as we could lose a £50m asset for nothing in 12 months time so Arsene Wenger’s desire to keep hold of the player even if he doesn’t commit his future to the club is going to be tested.

There are more concerning reports coming from Goal as they claim well placed sources have informed them that Arsenal are deeply concerned Sanchez is determined to join Man City following recent talks with his agents.

This report indicates that Arsenal chiefs fear Alexis won’t even listen to our latest contract offer as he’s got his mind set on linking up with Pep Guardiola as City prepare to make their interest official with an offer over the coming weeks.

Goal believe it’s highly unlikely that Arsenal will be able to resist cashing-in on Alexis if he doesn’t sign a new contract and City are understood to be confident of getting a deal agreed this summer.

It’s a fascinating situation but I personally think we’d be mad to let Alexis stay without signing a new deal. If he doesn’t show commitment to the club then we can’t expect him to be at his best on the pitch when he sees-out his contract next season.

Obviously it would be excruciating to see Sanchez join City so I just pray we manage to sell him abroad if he doesn’t pen a new contract.
