Arsenal second favourites to sign £121m striker

By on June 6, 2017

Arsenal are currently second favourites behind Real Madrid in the race to sign Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, according to the latest odds at the bookmakers.

Mbappe has become the most sought-after player on the planet after bursting on to the scene last season with the teenager scoring 26 goals and providing a further 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title.

The 18-year-old caught the eye with some breathtaking displays in France and in the Champions League so it’s no wonder practically every big club in Europe is hot on his trail.

Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move for Mbappe this summer with reports last week claiming we had seen our opening £87m bid rejected by Monaco.

Fresh reports today suggest Arsene Wenger is now lining-up a sensational world record £121m offer despite missing out on the chance to sign Mbappe for just £220,000 last summer.

Many people don’t think we’ve got the financial muscle to land the most in-demand player in the world but Wenger seems confident he can lure Mbappe to the Emirates with the promise of regular first team football.

The player himself has confirmed that his development is more important than money and he only wants to join a club where he’ll play week-in, week-out, so we could have a decent chance of signing him.

The bookmakers certainly seem to think so too. For those of you who bet on football you’ll be interested to know that the bookies have Arsenal as the 11/4 second favourites to sign Mbappe this summer. Man City are third at a best price of 8/1 while Madrid are currently the 7/4 favourites to land the French international.

I can understand why Madrid are leading the way as they have already tabled an offer worth over £100m and they are arguably the biggest club in the world so it will be tough for Mbappe to turn them down.

However, if the youngster really wants to play on a regular basis, surely he’ll come to realise that he’s unlikely to do so at the Bernabeu where he’ll be up against the likes of Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale for a starting spot?

The bookmakers rarely get it wrong but in this case I hope they have as Mbappe would be an excellent signing for Arsenal and it would be a real statement of intent by the club.
