Arsenal lead race to sign 27-goal hitman in club record deal
According to a report in the Metro, Arsenal are leading Chelsea in the race to sign 27-goal Torino striker Andrea Belotti in what would be a club record deal this summer.
Arsene Wenger’s future at the Emirates remains in doubt but it seems the club are still pressing ahead with our transfer business and a top class striker is firmly on the agenda.
With Alexis Sanchez still being tipped to leave and the future’s of Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud also uncertain, we are expected to bring in at least one new front-man over the coming months.
Several names have been linked with a move to Arsenal but it looks like we’ve identified our prime target as the Metro are citing a report from The Sun that claims Wenger feels Belotti is the man to help fire us to the title next season.
The Italian international was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in January after Torino’s sporting director Gianluca Petrachli sensationally claimed they had rejected a £56m bid from Arsenal.
It looks like we’ve maintained our interest during the second half of the season as the Metro report indicates that we’re leading Chelsea in the race to sign Belotti this summer.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a sensational campaign that’s seen him score 27 goals in all competitions for mid-table Torino so he’d certainly provide us with an added goal threat up front if we do end up getting a deal agreed.
However, that is still going to be tricky as the Metro claim that Torino are demanding £85m for Belotti’s signature and I personally don’t think there’s any chance we’ll agree to pay that amount.
If we’re to buy a top class striker in today’s market, we’re going to have to pay big money and any potential deal for Belotti would certainly smash our transfer record but I don’t see us paying £85m.
So unless Torino lower their expectations, I struggle to see how we’re going to land the hitman, especially with clubs like Chelsea driving the asking price up.

There’s probably only half a dozen players on the planet Arsenal would pay that sort of money for, and he certainly is not one of them.
