[Player Ratings] Arsenal 2-1 Man City: Gabriel & Holding superb

By on April 23, 2017

Alexis Sanchez scored an extra-time winner as Arsenal booked their place in the FA Cup final against Chelsea thanks to a 2-1 comeback win over Man City today.

City opened the scoring through Aguero midway through the second half and Monreal levelled things up with a volley before Sanchez won it in extra-time.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  7/10 | At fault for the opening goal as he should have come to collect after Aguero’s heavy touch but made a superb save to tip Toure’s effort on to the post at 1-1.

Gabriel  9/10 | Outstanding. Easily his best display in an Arsenal shirt. Dominant in the air and made some superb tackles/blocks. Looks far more comfortable in the back three.

Koscielny  8/10 | Marshalled the back-line well and did his bit to try and keep City at bay.

Holding  8.5/10 | Another superb performance from the youngster. Wasn’t overawed by the occasion and held his own against a top City attacker. Should have scored with a header in extra-time.

Oxlade-Chamberlain  7.5/10 | Superb cross to supply Monreal for the equaliser. Worked hard both in defence and going forward. Another fine display in the wing-back role.

Ramsey  7/10 | Gifted possession to City for their opener after trying to nut-meg Toure but worked his socks off for the entire game.

Xhaka  7/10 | He was right up for this game and his attitude was infectious throughout the team as we dug deep to secure a vital win. Passing was neat and tidy as always.

Monreal  7.5/10 | Well outpaced by Aguero for their goal but levelled things up with a lovely volley at the far post. Didn’t stop running until the final whistle.

Özil  7/10 | Weirdly it was his technique and decision making that let him down a few times when we had chances on the break but Ozil worked harder than anybody today.

Sanchez  7.5/10 | On hand to fire home from the winner and send us to the final. The touch before the shot was unreal. Big games require big players and Sanchez stepped-up.

Giroud  5/10 | Ineffective once again. Struggled in the lead striker role in the new formation.

Subs:

Welbeck  7/10 | His pace gave us a new dimension up front, although he missed a glorious chance to make it 3-1 in extra-time.

Bellerin  7/10 | Made a vital block to deny Delph and his pace was a useful outlet to relieve pressure during the final ten minutes.

Another Wembley final awaits and it was great to see the players put in a real shift today as that sort of desire has been lacking this season. Let’s see what we can do in the league now but at least we’ve got an FA Cup final to look forward to.

Ramsey was lost as always. Yaya made a full out of him. He made a mistake for the 1st goal, and then another, but they missed it.
    Ramsey out to Stoke!

So proud! I have so much faith in Arsenal. Whether he stays or goes I appreciate all Wenger has done. My prayer is that we would win the FA Cup, and finish in the top 4. The Ox and Holding were superb.
