[Player Ratings] Palace 3-0 Arsenal: Ozil/Mustafi worst of the lot

By on April 10, 2017

Another gutless performance from Arsenal resulted in a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace this evening with goals from Townsend, Cabaye and Milivojevic seeing us crash to yet another away defeat.

Here are my ratings:

Martínez  5.5/10 | Smart save to deny Benteke before half time. Confident claiming crosses but needlessly gave away a dodgy penalty.

Bellerín  4/10 | Nightmare defensively as he couldn’t cope with Zaha or Townsend all game.

Mustafi  3/10 | Absolute nightmare for the German. Bullied by Benteke all night and lucky not to be sent off for two poor tackles in the first half.

Gabriel  4/10 | Perhaps fouled in the build-up to the opener. Went close with a decent header just before the break. At least he looked like he wanted to defend at times.

Monreal  4/10 | Given the run-around by Zaha and Townsend all night. Another poor display.

Elneny  4/10 | Way too many sideways passes. I don’t think he’s the answer to our midfield problems by any stretch.

Xhaka  4/10 | Controlled the game for long periods but we did little with it. A few decent long passes.

Walcott  4/10 | Not involved enough. A couple of link-ups with Bellerin and that was about it.

Özil  3/10 | Awful performance all round. Looked completed uninterested as soon as we went behind and gave away possession more times than I care to remember.

Sánchez  4/10 | A few glimpses of his talent but nothing special. Cut a frustrated figure for the most part.

Welbeck  4/10 | One half chance was the best he came up with. A little isolated at times but still looks rusty.

Subs:

Giroud (5), Ramsey (5), Oxlade-Chamberlain (5)

This was as bad a performance as we’ve seen from this team and if it wasn’t obvious enough by now, Wenger has lost the players and it’s CLEARLY time to go. Not holding my breath though….

The problem is teams know how to counter the gunners. But Wenger refuses to adapt/change and that has been the cause of his many defeats especially to teams who play anti soccer and frustrate the gunners with a 9/10 men wall.
And yet Wenger still persists in trying to thread a ball through such a wall.Notice how other teams score . Everton scored with Barkley running at defenders.Firmino scored when there was space.
I think Arsenal will have to sack this guy for being so stubborn.
His style requires time and space,as we have said countless times.
When these are denied, the gunners are effectively neutralised having no plan b.
As we all know he doesn’t practised defence drills. Can you believethis? No wonder RVP got so angry and left.

Bonaroca:- I have to be honest as an Arsenal supporter since 1946, when
Arsenal were passing through a bad patch, but saved if I am not mistaken by
Mercer and Rooke who were considered veterans. Today money talks from payer’s
agent, the players and the managers.
I think Arsenal should have the courage to take back the contract to extend
Mr Wenger’s extension and bring in a new manager. From to-night’s match
against Crystal Palace it is clear that there is something wrong with the
    team.
I have great admiration for Mr Wenger, who gave much pleasure with Arsenal r
teams playing top quality soccer, but has also worked wonders by improving
English soccer at all levels in general.
But its unfortunate that Mr Wenger still thinks that the entertaining soccer,
that he introduced to day is his downfall because all British teams have
improved and this is proven when Arsenal are playing against inferior teams.
I think it is about time that the Board will have the courage to withdraw the
extension on his contract and get a top quality Manager.
Basically Arsenal have a strong team and reserves and up and coming academy
players, but obviously need a couple of top quality players, but this should
be handled by the new manager.
I feel very bad when Arsenal loose a game, but worse when those supporters
pay week in and out to follow home and away matches and get negative results
and the board are dong nothing to remedy this porblem.
