Arsenal boss says key man could have ankle ligament damage

Arsene Wenger fears that Alexis Sanchez may have sustained ankle ligament damage during Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to West Brom this afternoon.

Sanchez was once again on the score-sheet as he fired home the equaliser in the 15th minute at the Hawthorns earlier today after the hosts had taken an early lead.

Alexis was a real threat during the opening half hour but sadly his influence faded after he was on the receiving end of a disgusting ‘tackle’ from James McClean.

Sanchez was able to carry on after receiving treatment but Wenger said he wanted to take Alexis off at half time as his ankle was a mess. Sanchez being Sanchez insisted on carrying on but he was having little effect on the game after the break and was eventually subbed.

Wenger has now said that if the injury was just a kick then Alexis should be passed fit to represent Chile during the international break but there’s a chance he’s damaged ligaments which would obviously mean he’d be ruled out for Chile and facing a spell on the treatment table.

He was injured from the tackle in the first half. It was a bad tackle. His ankle is in an absolutely terrible state. He should not have played in the second half but he insisted that he wanted to come out. In the first half he was the one who created many chances, made dangerous situations and in the second half you could see that he couldn’t anymore. In the end we had to take him off. He should not even have played in the second half.

on if he’ll miss the Chile games…
Chile goes to Argentina for a massive game but they play only next week and if it’s only a kick, he will play. If the ligament is damaged, he will not play.

The hosts clearly targetted Sanchez for some rough treatment all afternoon and sadly the referee did little to protect our Chilean superstar and inevitably it lead to an injury.

One day English football will take steps to cut out stupid, reckless tackle that sides like West Brom thrive on as it’s the only way to prevent players like Sanchez getting the better of them.

Fingers crossed Alexis is okay as the last thing we want is him ruled out for any significant period of time right now.

    Another masterclass in how not to defend by Koscielney. The first and third goals were comical. Running away to make sure you can’t head it is shameless. Lovely on the ball but utterly useless against anyone good and/or big. Some Arsenal fans still think he’s good!

    As long as such tackles are allowed in the epl,the English teams will never win the cl.Such a tackle on the Chilean will be punished with ayellow or possible rc.
    As for Wenger,his time is surely up. A manager is judged by results.The rf lasted that long because he was winning.Once the winning stops,you have to go.
    Actually the fm shd have been fired at least ten years ago for his repeated failure when coming to the finishing line not once but on least three to five times.
