International playmaker confirms interest in joining Arsenal

By on December 20, 2016

West Ham star Dimitri Payet has dropped a huge hint that he’s open to joining Arsenal after commenting on reported interest from Arsene Wenger.

Payet made his name in France with Marseille but has really become a household name since joining West Ham from the Ligue 1 giants last summer.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a superb debut season with the Hammers last year when he scored 16 goals and provided 17 assists in his 44 games before also starring for France at Euro 2016.

Payet’s performances have led to rumours that he could be on the move to a bigger club with Arsenal among those understood to be keeping a close eye on the playmakers situation.

The attacker has now fulled speculation over a possible move to North London after saying that he’s read Arsene Wenger sees him as the missing piece of his puzzle – although Payet insists there has been no contact with the Arsenal boss.

However, the French international went on to suggest that he would find it difficult to turn down a move to the Emirates if the opportunity arose. Payet is quoted as saying by the Mirror:

“I read that Wenger considers me the missing piece of the Arsenal’s game, but he’s never told me that!”

“We conceded five or six at home against them. When you see them playing, as a technical player, you could only have fun in that team. They’re candidates for the title every year.”

After his impressive debut season in England, Payet has struggled to replicate that same form this term for a West Ham team that’s languishing in the wrong half of the table and the player has admitted he’d consider a move to a Champions League club.

Payet added:

“The situation at the club affects me, but I’m an ambitious person.

“I’m in a fight with my club and I’m giving everything for them, to get out of this difficult situation, but I’m not closing the door to anything.

“I miss the Champions League… I’ve got some great years ahead of me and I want to enjoy them by playing in important competitions.”

I’m a big Payet fan and he certainly has the quality needed to play for Arsenal. A front three of Payet, Ozil and Walcott behind Sanchez would cause any team problems.

However, he turns 30 in March and I’m sure it would take silly money to force West Ham in to a sale so I just don’t see anything coming of this as there will be better value players to be had.
