Ozil to sign new deal….as long as Arsenal sign this £25m star

By on December 15, 2016

According to a report in the Independent, Mesut Ozil has asked Arsenal to sign Julian Draxler in a move that would convince him to sign a new long-term contract with the club.

Ozil currently has just 18 months left to run on his existing deal and has been locked in negotiations with the club about a big-money extension in recent months but so far an agreement hasn’t be found.

Arsene Wenger has already indicated that Ozil is just as concerned about our ability to compete for major trophies as he is about money so it seems the playmaker wants to see progression within the squad before he commits his future.

It appears Ozil’s contract talks have taken an unusual twist as the Independent are now citing a report coming out of France from RMC Sport that claims he’s asked the club to sign Julian Draxler this winter.

Ozil and Draxler know each other from the German national team and the newspaper suggests that Mesut would see the signing of his 23-year-old compatriot as the kind of statement that would persuade him to extend his stay in north London.

Draxler has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and we were reportedly close to signing him several times before he eventually joined Wolfsburg from Schalke in 2015.

The Independent claim that Wenger has continued to monitor the attacker over the past year and could now make another move for the player after he fell out with the Wolfsburg hierarchy.

Draxler is fully expected to find a new club in January but the report says Arsenal will face stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain as the Ligue 1 giants are understood to be lining-up a £25m move.

Who knows how much truth there is behind all these reports but I think Draxler would be a superb addition at Arsenal as he’s a top class player and is capable of playing anywhere across the front positions.

Therefore, he’d give the boss plenty of options in the final third and who knows, he could turn out to be the difference for us in the title race during the second half of the season.

If he’s available for around £25m-£30m, then we should be giving it serious consideration and if Draxler’s signing helps persuade Ozil to pen a new deal, then it’s a huge added bonus!
